My friends get on my case about always looking through junk piles and metal dumpsters searching for treasures.
I find lots of great stuff, but today was a new one on me.

Looking through a metal dumpster for anything interesting, I noticed the corner of a vise!
After doing some uncovering, there were TWO in there. One Kurt D60, and one kurt knock-off.
Both in fine shape, just need cleaning and relubing. And both with rotating bases too, what a deal.

No handles to be found, but for the price I'm not complaining..... :)

You know how awkward it is trying to pull a big Kurt vise with swivel base out of a dumpster by yourself?

Probably ruined a shirt in extracting both vises. You should feel bad for me. :)

what a great score! This is one of the reasons I look down when I walk, and also so I don't trip and fall as much.

I know how great it is to be sucked on this board although I have never been worthy of being sucked.

I have never said this to anyone ever before but this deserves it.

Gotta love people who don't know what they have and think its trash!

I've got a few circular saws from trash cans because the PO sawed the cord in half.

Is it possible someone threw it in the trash so that he can recuperate it later to maybe sell on craiglist. I knew a guy that did this to earn extra money because the owner did not pay him enough, in his opinion.

We have a local farm store that use to throw away some good stuff now and then. Not any more though, they take a cutting torch to anything and everything they think someone might get some use out of. They even went a step further and put up security cameras and signs threatening to prosecute anyone that gets into their dumpster. :willy_nil

That is great, I hope they piss on food that other people could eat as well.

If you can't tell the extreme sarcasm in the above statement, it is there. So much waste in our society, I just don't understand why some people have the mentality of "If I can't use it, then I will make sure no one else will be able to". Great, way to screw over your fellow human. :headshake Sadly I bet this stems from legal reasons Ex. Guy hurts himself trying to lift something into his truck and then sues the store for his own actions.

Several years ago I would be invited to bid on truck loads of freight damaged stuff from Grainger. Deal was you took the good with the bad sight unseen. With one load exception it was always a win. For liability purposes they stopped this practice n started that same bs of cutting stuff up, what a total waste.

I replace the rock climbing ropes at my gym every 4 years. I have one of my employees cut the old ropes into 10 foot sections before they are thrown in the trash. That was a recommendation from our insurance company to avoid a lawsuit from someone taking the old ropes and trying to use them for climbing.

Yes, sadly people who sue the store when they get hurt in the dumpster are the reason a lot of places use enclosed compactors or fence in and lock up their dumpsters.

My local ACE hardware sometimes puts shelving and old displays that can be reused next to the dumpster instead of in it or destroying them. At least they understand that repurposing is better than trashing.
You just have to beat the scrappers to it!

I think the scrappers is why they done it. But what upsets me is when I've seen new childrens bicycles that didn't sell cut up into pieces instead of given away in a drawing or given to local churches for needy kids. I think thats red and down right ****** of the management there.

craziest/coolest thing ever. last month a buddy and I went to a huge shipping company in NJ. we were shipping a truckload of motorcycle parts. a guy sees the stuff and asks if were into old motorcycles hes got some stuff we might like. he says theres a pile of old frames in the warehouse we can have if we want. he calls another guy to show us the stuff and he says that stuff was thrown away. maybe still in the dumpster, so he takes us to the metal dumpster. it was a huge maybe 8 ft tall roll off. and tells us to climb up and have a look. sure enough there were 1/2 dozen british frames. we dragged 'em all out and filled the truck bed back up

the thing that surprised me was that they/he let us(complete strangers) climb on and dig through the metal dumpster. I told my buddy theres no way in hell id let strangers do that at my work. maybe we just looked that cool

What you're not telling us is the area WHERE the dumpster was at.

My guess is it wasn't behind Walmart.
