it's amazing that people think that ebay is THE lowest price you'll be able to find anywhere. Alot of the time it couldn't be further from the truth.

I just sold a snap-on 1/4" set on ebay....i wish it had gone for full retail

personally, i enjoy loacl auctions... talk about stupid pricesseen 25 y/o televisions bring new prices.... everything is usually dirt cheap or 90-125% of new.... kind of funny watching some of those thing go up and up though....lol

Those sets always go over list price. Seen them as high as $90. I had a almost new set that sold for $35 in my showroom. It was one of the few times I priced stuff more that 50% of retail and the guy was happy to get it.

The funny thing is; snapon.com has free shipping as well.... many ebay auctions charge $15-$25 for shipping... this pushes many over and beyond the retail price!

Hmm, how much do those red Snap On plastic cases cost? By my math, if the same extractors can be purchased for $18,99, that case must be worth around $24 or so.

I once saw a set of JH Williams made Kobolt Como Wrenches (K-Drive) on ebay. Brand New. It was about a year after Dahaner started making Kobolt for Lowes. I bid at normal retail price and the bid wars began, but I didn't bid anymore after my first offer, just observed. Watched those puppies sell for $80 bucks. For a 7 piece combo set. :headscrat

and the great thing about that is that we, here, are. So we can recognise something cheap and maybe get a good deal out of it.

My first wife and I had an antiques furniture business - it made a living just. Then we spotted a set of chairs... and bought a house after selling them at auction.

Is it really the same kit? Not being smart, but I've had look alike stuff that wasn''t the real deal.

As for everyone not being smart about tools and prices, this group here proves over and over again how much they know about tools and I am thankful for the exchange of info.

Hi Handy - the only reason I can think of that discontinued USA stuff on Ebay is going nuts is that there is a feeling by knowlegable insider folks that eventually we all will be paying the same premium price for Asian offshore tools that we now pay for premium USA tools. :headscrat

Infomercials promising ever increasing prices of "antiques" or collectibles prompt the greedy to expect a 1000 percent return (or more) on ANY item regardless of true life value can be blamed.

Many of these infomercials say they can make you earn hundreds of thousands of dollars a month selling ordinary items on the internet!!!

What a crock of manure!!! ( the insomniac is hardly rational).

I was at the Enron auction where they sold off the remnants of the company. TV's, radios, you name it that did not even have the company logo were going for more than new - even the auctioneer himself finally blurted out, "Haven't you people heard of Best Buy?"

On the other hand, I went to their internet auction (another part of the same sale) and bought what I thought was an embroidered Enron-logo hat for $4. Turns out it was TEN of those hats for a total of $4! I had a friend who was studying for a business degree and I sent her one as a joke gift for Christmas. She said it caused quite a stir when she walked into class wearing a multi-colored Enron hat :bounce:
