Old friend calls and says he is cleaning out since they are moving. Would I be interested in and old drill press he has had around for years (inherited it from his FIL) and only used a couple times. Doesn't want to move it 1500 miles. I told him I was interested, how much did he want. Says come pick it up and save him a trip to the dump. He has no details other than it is old and big.

On the way over I am wondering what did I just sign up for but figure worse case I take it to the dump and save him a trip. Grabbed a bottle of his favorite libation to thank him for thinking of me.

Well it turns out this "old and big" drill press is a 1951 Walker Turner 900 floor model that looks like it is a couple years old. We load it up and stand around a chat for a couple of minutes. I give him the bottle and thank him for thinking about me.

I think it is worth more than the bottle :bounce:

Wipe it down and power it up. Everything works like new. No play and no noise. Needed to adjust the quill return spring a couple of clicks.

Was a case of he just didn't want to deal with Craigslist or trying to sell it. He is downsizing as kids are gone. He is not mechanical at all, computer geek type. He had nothing in it so was a break even deal for him (was a good bottle, he is a wine guy and happy)

I will use it regularly as I do not have one. I am storing my son's ShopSmith, but really prefer heavy single purpose equipment.

Now to find a SloSpeed unicorn (might have to pony up a couple bottles for that)

I'll give you a hundred times (Edit: 1000 times!) what you paid for it!!!

Bill

If that was a cheap $5 bottle of wine you'd be way behind on that deal. My guess is it was considerably more than $5.
