Sommer Door Opener - Side Mount Kit

Anyone install a sommer opener with the side mount kit? ie. Installing the opener rail sideways above the door rail on the side?

Also, any Canadians purchase such an outfit here - (Ontario?).

I did search and find some info on sommer openers, but found no direct experience with the side mount.

I have two Sommer openers in my garage.

On one, I wanted to use the same kit so that the opener would not be in the middle...above a mid-rise lift. The folks at Sommer told me I could mount the opener in the standard manner...except off to the side almost above the one door track. Providing the door uses a torsion spring, you can mount to the side with no problem. No kit required.

I see... Thanks for the pic - that could very well be an option for me. I have to see if there is any difference in clearance required to do it that way as opposed to the actual side mount option. By the looks of your pic, I could have the space to do it that way. You can see by the pic attached here what I have to work with - beams on each side of the track, joists not too far above... and I don't want anything in the middle of the ceiling where I have lighting - and don't want to lose the headroom anyways in the middle.

You'd just mount it inboard of either track...connect at the upper corner of the door where the top wheel is. I can post any other pics you might like to see.

I just mounted a Chamberlain belt drive tight to the side yesterday. Seems to work very well. I used unistrut for the mounting and bracing. Here is a video of it running

I just installed two on my new Wayne Dalton doors. I have 12' ceiling and didn't want the obtrusive look of the opener unit and track hanging down from the ceiling. Kit is ~$66 and bracket is well built.

Looking at you picture it should work fine. They have a video on their site of the side mount kit in action.
