The reason is because the site doesn't allow feedback in the classified section. (it's read only).

That's a nice vise but there are two issues (price and location). Anything over $1/lb can be a tough sell with this crowd. The other issue is $hipping.

I could see $500 that is $2 a pound, but at $1500 you have priced yourself out of the game. Anyone that truly needs that vise would be buying new. The people who want it will try and pay as little as possible. It is a beautiful vise, hopefully you didn't pay too much at the auction. Try selling it on ebay, you would get higher dollar amounts for sure. I see a couple on ebay now, one is in terrible cosmetic shape compared to yours, they are asking $1499. I would list it for .99 starting price no reserve and I bet you would be near a grand in the end.

Thanks guys I was thinking about ebay but have never sold anything there, I was really hoping to do some trading, I bid on these vises back in October and forgot about about them, I was also under the impression that tey were 600s and not 800s I threw a number out that didnt hurt to bad and the auction firm called last week and wanted to know if I still wanted them...some kind of personel changed delayed things...anyway I was intrigued with this sites vise threads and thought I would throw it out there. I have three of these monsters one is missing the front plate, dust cover and one lock down bolt but the other two are all there and really nice....

I bet that monster must have cost over $3000.00 dollars when new let alone the shipping cost. If you bought them for less well let me just say you would get the Hoover Dam award (in my book at least) of the year.

Best of luck with your sale.

Scrapper, I am really wanting a nice metal fabrication table, if you run across one in your scrapping....you can make a cash offer if you want but I am more interested in shop equipment particularly a fab table with at least a 1/2" top. Just built a new garage and needing to fill it, I am also interested in Atlas/Craftsman lathes and accessories, need a good ac/dc cracker box stick welder and the list goes on on on on....or... broke tractors or equipment....

I'd trade a crackerbox in a heart bear for one of those!

whatever you do...DONT trade one of those for a crackerbox....they're worth what 5-6 crackerbox's are combined

That's one hell of a vise but it's too rich for my blood. The funny thing is, shipping wouldn't be anything, I need to make a run to Beaumont soon to get the contents of my dad's shop out of storage.

I can't see anyone realistically paying even $600 for that vise. I know they cost a small fortune when new and are truely a goliath of a vise, but resale value always plays a big part in adjusting the value accordingly.

Let's all be honest here. This is a vise. A nice big beefy vise, but it's still a vise. It's job is to hold objects (large/heavy items for this particular vise) securely in place. Now the multiprocess Miller XMT304 you are welding this said object with is a tool you would spend good money on in the resale market. My 100#'er Charles Parker I got for $60 with a nice mounting table has and will probably forever more hold anything I'm going to work on.

Most of the places that sell these type vises are either industrial/commercial auction houses or similar places going out of business, OR a guy like him who bought from an auction and is looking to resell. Basically, I am willing to bet that less than 1% of ANY NEW large vise purchases (over 150lbs.) come from a hobbyist. We rely on CL and sites like this to ****** up the big boys, but at a hobbyist price.

I've also always pondered the reason why the average Joe would really need a vise that size in their garage or workshop. :dunno:

Because it's there!

(or maybe you don't have an engine stand but need to test fire the hemi you rebuilt before you drop it back in your 'Cuda)

Well, in this case you would have to cough up 1500 clams to get it "there".

I have a LONG list of tools that I'd buy in the $1500 range before a vise.

Oh yeah, I saw a guy giving away two engine stands on CL a few weeks back. Free rolls off the tongue much easier than 1500 in my book.....and I wouldn't be caught dead in a Chrysler product.

Easy fellows...:) 1500.00 is just a number thrown out based on the junker listed on ebay for that price, like I said earlier I am trying to get some stuff for my new garage and was hoping someone fairly close was wanting or needing a big vise. Maybe 750.00 would generate more interest...or lets do some trading, by the way Fastenal will ship from the store in Orange TX to store Seattle Washington for 200.00.If you are closer I am sure it will be less anyway I am open for suggestions

It's the shipping that's killer. If it was local, i'd pay 600 bucks for it. My wife might kill me for it tho.

Hey Toomany, I bet not everybody on this forum is...... the average joe..:)

I hear ya F1. I may be getting a similar Wilton C3 from work within the next year or so for next to nothing. I try not to count down the days.

I am not saying that your vise(s) is(are) off the mark in terms of resale, but I know I wouldn't pay that for any vise. I just don't feel that what I use a vise for would constitute a $500+ purchase price. With that said, I have seen similar ones go for good money ($800+) on ebay in recent. My comments (which you requested) are what I would or wouldn't pay for a vise.

I really hope you get top dollar for it. Take the advice of the other member which suggested ebay. You could put a "no shipping" tag on them. You'll be surprised how far someone would travel for one. This way any damage that ocurrs in transit is on the buyer .

The SE Tx area is pretty hard to find nice vices. I would bet you would do pretty good selling on CL. unfortunately my vice budget right now is $300 or I would be coming to see you this weekend.

Update....sold one locally for cash and some shop stuff...for much less than the one on ebay sold for...:( I had already commited to the guy in Beaumont and delivered it Friday,..the one on ebay went for 1282.00 plus shipping Saturday morning. They generated alot of interest and it has me thinking about selling the third one as I really dont need a vise that big....the problem is it's stuck like chuck, I removed the lead screw and the threaded barrel, was thinking about a strong back and a porta power to try and press the movable jaw out of the body, what y'all think
