What I want to know is, what kind of A/V you put in your garage? And why you chose it? And how you installd it?

DeWalt jobsite radio. Sits on the bench or just outside the door. I can power it with AC power or with a drill battery. It also charges the battery when running on AC power. Went on a dinner cruise with one of the Scouts on Sunday and even used the DeWalt for an AM/FM radio in the Scout.

I use my old IBM laptop with Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 amplified speakers to listen to internet radio over the wifi (usually TripleJ) while I'm working. If I forget to bring the laptop out to the garage I can plug in my Blackberry and listen to MP3s or streaming radio on that.

Tivoli Model One...

Nice sound, even though its mono. Nice small size, 8" wide, 5 deep, 4.5 high. Wood case, cool retro style. Control action feels 'high quality', has an Aux input for my MP3 player/computer.

For audio I just have my lap top plugged into a set of desk top speaker system and on Pandora internet radio, for video it's a $20 pawn shop TV.

Garage radio is also the whole-house radio. Corner of the garage has a microwave, mini-fridge, freezer, icemaker, 400-CD changer, TV and a corner cabinet...
SinkTVIcemakerFreezer-1.jpg

Inside the cabinet is the surround sound receiver, cassette deck and VCR/DVD uniit. Wired the outlet to a wall switch so the cabinet's muffin fan, receiver, cassette deck and CD changer are turned on or off with one switch.
MediaCabinet.jpg

Five of those little Radio Shack speakers and a center channel speaker over the TV give pretty decent sound in the garage but there are two switches on the wall that connect the 'B' speakers on the patio or living room (or both). The CD changer is also connected to the house intercom system through the tape input connection. The whole mess is controlled by a universal remote that has an RF channel. It lets you control the surround sound receiver from anywhere in the house.

Reciever with Ipod hooked up. Currently using my old speakers from college which are huge 2'x3' speakers with 15" subs in them. They will play LOUD. In the new shop when I'm done I'll have some smaller speakers in the ceiling and that's it. When I'm working in the shop, I have to have tunes.

A flatscreen will be going in the new shop. Most likely a 50" older 720p style TV since they are cheaper now. Wire that into the cable from the house, and my desktop that will be in the shop. This way if I have schematics, I can put them up in large format on the flatscreen and reference it while working.

I use an old car stereo and speakers running off a desktop computer power supply. Sounds good and didn't cost me anything.

Currently it's an old Sony CD Boombox. Plans call for something a little more elaborate, but for now, that's it.

An small shelf unit. It was normally priced around $130. It was on some space making sale for $89. Radio, CDs and a dock are plenty for me. It sits on my tool box. There will be a PC or maybe a laptop joining it as internet radio gives me options that the poor selection locally can't compete with. The only radio station that ever gets played is NPR. I'm only 70 miles from Lake Michigan or Madison, Wi. but my reception in this valley is terrible.

Pioneer component system with Bose speakers and ipod hookup. I want to get rid of the Bose speakers for some more compact ones, space is always a premium..

Sony shelf system with 3 disc cd changer and a Makita jobsite radio for when I want to use my Ipod. Seems like the Makita gets used more and more when I'm listening to the radio too.

Right now some POS my wife bought me that won't stay on the channel.

I want a Tivoli Model 1, but they are still too expensive for my cheap old self.

Some realy good ideas in here.

I was thinking no TV in the garage, to big of a distraction. But for schematics I may talk my self in to one

I have XM satellite/ best of sirius online, via wireless internet and then plug the laptop into my Cambridge stereo, which is similar to a Bose. I personally think the Cambridge stuff is very comprable to Bose, only a couple hundred cheaper. The flat screen is coming soon, and it's sound will also get piped through the Cambridge.

I have an old Dell computer. I have music saved on it and run it through some amplified speakers. I have a new project I am planning but I don't want to spoil the suprise here. I have a retro music player I want to set up and post while I am working on it.

teenage kids are hard on cd players it seems. :dunno:

if i'm in the garage, i always turn it on, but seldom really hear it.

I've got an old Sony STR-D1015 5.1 surround sound receiver that found it's way into my garage as a hand-me-down.

Sony_STR-D1015.gif

2 sets of cheap bookshelf speakers up in the rafters of each corner of the garage.

And a leftover 8" JBL powered & ported subwoofer take's care of the down low.

My wife hates it because it can get REALLY loud and the neighbors can hear it when the garage doors are open. The doors and walls are all insulated, so when they're closed it's no problem. It's pretty much made of cast-off's and hand-me-downs so it was essentially free...

Bose is stupidly overpriced. I love Cambridge Soundworks. I've got a set of their home theater speakers as well as an older version of your radio. Much more affordable. Great stuff.

Ipod with docking station....

I'm looking for a HD/MP3 head that I can hook up to some speakers....we are in the process of riping all of our CD's to the computer so that we can keep track of everything that way....tired of messing with CD's.

I'm trying to decide what to do with my old Kenwood reciever....it's about 35 years old...bought it in England when I was in the Air Force....it sure did have a great sound....just not very 'pratical' in comparison to todays stuff...

I have a cheap boombox with a broken CD player and an even older sony one with a working cassette recorder but no cassettes! I'm keping my eyes peeled for an old tuner/amp with an input for my Sony HD walkman, got some decent speakers stashed up the loft somewhere I think unless I chucked em in a fit of tidying up madness.

Wireless routers, satellite radio, ipods, internet radio, whole-house systems, GOOD GRIEF! Some of you guys are high-tech! Mine is an old Emerson boom box/cassette player from about 1987 with the "antenner" JB-Welded on! It ain't worthy of no picture!
