The original OEM for any tool is typically cheaper.... BUT you probably do get a lifetime warranty and at the shop service...

Im with ya on the shop service, but not for an extra 100 bucks...and those are made pretty strong...at least the older ones my old man has are...i have yet to ever break one, not saying it doesnt or can't happen...just that the quality is there that im not so concerned about warranty....

besides...wouldnt irwin carry a warranty with em? Im sure ud have to send it in or something inconvenient...but still

Mac has a 10 piece set on special (around $100) once or twice a year. If you can, hold out for that.

You need to provide these CEO with their generous pay and bonus. They can not live on a $1,000,000 a year salary.

Because the mac dealer comes to your shop, you can pay him $25 or so a week for the rest of your life while using the tools as you pay them off, or you may not have a credit card to buy from Amazon. The same question could be asked of any tool truck brand when comes to a rebadged tool or hell most of the tools they sell. Of course, there are many other sources for tools these days besides a tool truck.:wtf:
Beside the Mac guy has those Chinese Vise Grip sets that go on special once in awhile, now there's a bargain.

I agree with Merk, Snap-On sells the Grip-Ons again, for a while my dealer wasn't able to get them anymore but I recently got a new set, my fav style locking pliers for sure.

I KNOW im beating a dead horse but im looking for visegrip pliers and this really pissed me off.....

Mac tools part number : 1078KB $197.99

its the second one down at this link
http://www.mactools.com/productdetails/tabid/119/c-23086-locking-pliers.aspx

and then..... $103.99
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QJB496/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Everyone does that, especially with stuff they source from another distributor then they just slap their name on it. You act like the MSRP for a tool sold under a truck brand is going to be a good deal .

Outside of Snap-On, where can I order them?

I've seen some sets on ebay before. For a full set search on there under Snap-on, Blue-Point, Locking Pliers, might be a few other brands who used the grip-ons also but if you don't want to get them from S/o that could be a source.

I got my irwin 10wr vice grip from snap on and the rest of my wr's and ln's from amazon, snap on sells all the vice grips that i have, so i could probably pawn them off on the snap on dealer.

But some rebadged tools are less of a mark-up than others. Sometimes much less. Not always, but I've occasionally found this to be the case. Usually with the less expensive Blue Point stuff. The difference on a few items has been negligible, much to my surprise. Like pick up tools.

I dont know why would anyone want to buy from mac tools......

My Mac dealer was actually a friend that I once worked for back in the day. I had bought stuff from him over the years (mostly air tools). He lost the route a few years ago, and they never replaced him. Some of the air tools crapped out, so the one's I liked I sent directly to Mac for repair (one quarter inch air ratchet I really liked). Between the shipping both ways and the repair ( they wanted up front) it eclipsed the worth of all of them (the quarter inch was 200.00). So I took all of them and tossed them in the trash.

Proto, Napa, Caterpillar, Gray, or Channellock (ebay) for example.
Other sources but difficult to find in the US i think include Elora, Wurth, USAG, Facom, Premier (Sealey) etc.

I understand all the points brought up in the above posts and I realize time is money but for the life of me I do not understand paying high prices for a chinese product with an american name.

I'm with you. I'll buy Craftsman on sale, but I just can't justify horrendous prices because of a "brand name". I knew too many guys that sold their soul to the guy in the van.

Are the "new" Vicegrips now ****? I haven't had to buy any in years.

Glanced at Vise grips in a local feed store. Their price is only a little less than the Mac price. My objection to the Vise grips is they are made in China, Irwin wants US price for them, and reports are the quality is not good. I have a considerable number of old genuine Vise grips and don't plan to buy new. I think there will be considerable price cuts like the Amazon link.

I don't think Channelock makes locking pliers. If they do I'll be getting a pair since I really like Channelock stuff.

Yes. Look for used ones on eBay.

Damn, thats sad. I've got "grips" that are well over 20 years old, still going strong, and I've abused the heck out of them.
I think I've got some chicom ones at work that someone left (?). The teeth rip out along with the bar that bends like a pretzel that applies the force from the adj. screw.
Total junk.

Channellock used to sell Grip-On locking pliers in black & Channellock blue. New 2 pc. sets can be found on eBay fairly regularly at decent prices.

I don't think Channelock makes locking pliers. If they do I'll be getting a pair since I really like Channelock stuff.
