Have you told Sears you want to have the old one back? Tell them to put these internals into the other body?

Expect to see a new thread from some guy in Pensacola gloating about how about how he just got a MINT fine tooth round head 3/8 drive 43788 -V- ratchet from Sears in exchange for a broken one with a refurbished upc on it that had for sure been in a machine and been tumbled clean, on each side of the =CRAFTSMAN= was a big J as a prefix and a V as a suffice; some assholes initials. one side of the round head has toolbox marks, and the other side looks like another owner tried to etch initials in failing miserably.

If you wanted it done right, then you should have done it yourself. Stop bitching.

i asked them if they could give me any parts and they said no, they would have to rebuild it.

why is this my fault???

just spoke with greg, the gentleman who rebuilds the ratchets. said he does many at a time and he cant keep track of whos is whos. (this is not what i was told by the person i dropped it off with)

mine was in a ziplock bag with my name and phone number taped to it. he is going to look in the back and see if he has any spare bodies laying around to swap out and call me back.

i know the answer to this whole issue.
i should have bought snap on. :lol_hitti

i scored a MINT fine tooth round head 3/8 drive 43788 -V- ratchet from a sale for 5 bucks.
got it home and was going to put it to use and it froze.
took it apart and it has one broken pawl.

my local sears has an old school guy that rebuilds ratchets in the back. i took this ratchet in specifically and told them i did not want to exchange it, i wanted the old man to rebuild it. it was special to me and i needed this exact ratchet rebuild, not exhanged.

get a call today saying its ready to pick up.

now i have a clean working round head fine tooth ratchet, but its not the one i took in. this *****.

DIY...Walk in, ask for a rebuild kit for "xxxx" model ratchet and DIY, you won't have that problem.

The warranty was 100% effective and correct in this case.

The warranty says nothing about special treatment.

When someone tells you face to face that there is a guy who rebuilds them in the back I don't call that special treatment. Its a service I was offered.

I should have posted it was my personal ratchet or that it was my dads that passed away. I just told my story.

Similar thing happened to me. I asked Sears once if I could get a rebuild kit and do it myself because it had sentimental value but they told me they could only offer to do a rebuild in house. I know policies and "sub rules" can vary because I felt I should have gotten a rebuild kit but didn't know if I was entitled or not.

If they told you something, they should have stuck to it. Unfortunately, I don't trust Sears enough so I declined because if there was a slip up, they cannot replace sentimental, only value.

I dont see why everyone is giving the op such a hard time..i agree with him 100%.

This.

Original post has been doctored, but IIRC, He was explicit on how he wanted it done. Sears agreed to handle it that way. They didn't. If Sears had told him no, and he went ahead anyway, then he would have had no leg to stand on.

Sears already does it so cheap its bankrupting them,,, now we have come to expect we should get 50$ worth of service on a 5$ used tool.

:dunno:
Seems to me your issue is w / the person you dropped it off with who made you certain assurances.

I can remember, as well as many of you, when Sears actually was worth a damn. Expecting anything more than a Walmart experience these days will land you in trouble.

Sorry about your luck, OP.
