Source for 5/8ths-18 (fine thread) 1" full thread bolt with a reduced height (thin) head

I need a 5/8ths-18 (fine thread) 1" grade 8 full thread bolt with a reduced height (thin) head. I searched Google and Master-McCarr without luck. I guess I can reduce the height of the head myself, but I was hoping there were some readily available. Any other sources that you've had luck with sourcing odd bolts?

Something like this. Even thinner would be ideal.

Since he's asking about an ultra-thin head, I don't think a socket head would work.

Unless the recess goes down into the shank of the threaded area.

Sorry, hex would be ideal. I'm trying to gain clearance in a very tight application.

A quick search I did not find a lohead SHCS and that the standard head on a hex head cap screw is ~.404". How high do you need it to be? Any chance you can counter bore the hole? Counter sink the hole and use a flat head SHCS?

Unless you know of an application that uses what you are needing, it sounds like a specialty fastener. Especially depending on how fast you need it, might be quickest to buy one and have a local machinist face it off for you. It would take me about 20 seconds if I had it in my lathe.

If you're not particular, a grinder would help reduce that head thickness pdq.

Yes, I can do it at home with a belt sander, but I was hoping to find on already done. Now I'm more curious if these exist. I'm trying to fit a crank mounted tach drive and space is tight.

If I can get a 1/4" from the front, that would be helpful.

On something like this, if McMaster doesn't have it, you're realistically not going to find it.

Red loctite is probably enough.

What does that bolt actually do?

I've never messed with one of these but it looks like every other fitting on there is some form of pipe thread

It holds the internal drive mechanism in the housing. It will be spinning at 1/2 engine speed/RPM
