I'm looking to add ice teeth (like in photo) to my snowblower auger but I dont want to buy a 4x8 sheet of AR500 just to make a few teeth. Does anyone have a source for remnants of AR500 or similar abrasion resistant steel? I think either 3/8" or 1/2" would work. Blower Teeth.png

I've bought odd drops/cutoffs on eBay before.

Does AR500 come in bar stock? Seems a length would be easier to deal with the plate drops....

what diameter on the auger?
Auger is 18" diameter. I just checked my clearance after chipping away all the ice and at the tightest point I only have 1" clearance where the auger comes close to the back edge of the blower's ice cutting blade. So I probably want max 7/8" high teeth.

So cutsendcut.com doesn't like 3/8 ar500 under 1" tall. So this is made right at 1" and right at 2" long. You could easily grind the points of to give your clearance. If its 1/4" ar500 I can go smaller. This part in AR500 at 60 parts would be 2.69 a part.

In 1/4" at the right 7/8 height it would be $2.17 a part for 60 parts

Shape can be modified. Its given me a ship date of the 31st right now

Thanks for the idea. I suppose I could also just reach the 1” dimension by putting a couple of really small teeth on the back side and then grinding those off.

If you call up your local steel yard or fab shop they might have some drops off their plasma table. I know I have got some smoking deals on AR plate before because all they had left was an odd shape but it worked for what I needed.

Have you considered refacing your present teeth?

With an Arc Welder and the appropriate electrode, a lot of worn parts can be quickly and economically returned to service.

The current auger is a smooth spiral. Im sure it worked well in Minnesota, where it came from, but it doesnt work well in ice. Unfortunately the constant freeze thaw cycles in CA create lots of ice that you need real teeth (or a way bigger machine) to cut.
