Source for large quantity Drill bits

Gang,
I need to purchase 45 pieces of a 5.2mm drill bit. I found a place on line www.hermanscentral.com but they charge 17.50 on shipping under 50 bucks. That’s nearly the price of the bits themselves and gets me up towards 40 plus dollars. I might as well order enough bits to get me over the $50.00 mark but that’s like 65 bits. I really don’t need that many.
Here they are .80 cents apiece for HSS. Do you guys have any other suggestions that would comparatively priced or better?

That is a darned good price! I can't find anything that beats it.....

Have you used this brand/supplier before? How's the quality?

Amazing what google returns isn't it no never used them before but they only have to drill 14 holes thru .090 phenolic for each drill bit. Probably by hand, I think the poorest quality bit should be fine. They sell tap and die sets too. I suppose I could find something else I need to buy as well, but I hate buying stuff for the sake of buying it.

Yeah i know what you mean when you need a certain size drill but you need a small quantity(they always have a minimum order or quantity). I like to keep my sets complete so i don't get stuck not having the size when you need em, i did some searching before and found a company called Fastenal i have one in my area mabe there might be one close to you.

They are bit expensive compared to the price you have there try enco

Fastenal is close, by the time I add shipping. You know I pass one nearly every day. I never went in though, it's in an strange spot. Do they have lots of good stuff in there for us gear heads?

yea fastenal has a lot of cool stuff, The only problem is you have to buy in bulk for the most part, But that shouldn't be a problem for the amount of bits you need.

I am sure you have already checked out Enco, MSC, Travers tool and I am sure there are several well known machinist supply places I am forgetting. No search would be complete without comparing their pricing. Enco is owned by MSC, and Enco should be the cheapest of anyone anywhere. Hope that helps ya.

Enco didn't have the right size - but the price was comparable. I really don't think I can do better then .80 a bit! LOL. I didn't check out Travers tool. Thanks for the tip.

Well Hermans was the best price. I checked out Fastenall but they were 2.10 each. Under 50 bucks was 13 some odd dollars shipping. So I just stocked up on smaller drill bits (1/16,5/64,3/32, 7/64, and 1/8"). Seems I'm always breaking these bits anyway and that takes me to 50 bucks and 8 dollars shipping

Man,

That confirms it. I get REALLY good pricing from MSC, and free shipping too. I just priced out that bit and it was $.68 a piece.

The company I work for has an employee purchase agreement with MSC, plus with most items it's next day delivery too.

I did just buy a bunch of nuts and bolts and shims etc... hard to find items from Reid Tool and Supply. Good folks to deal with and they won't rob you blind. Just til you need glasses!!!

I think I'm gonna go and stock up on those smaller size drill bits, I use them alot drilling bolts for safety wire and seem to break them alot.

I have no idea how they compare on shipping cost (they have a local store here in Indy) but I know they are the only place I will buy drill bits if I have the time to get down there. They always ask if I want US or Chinese bits. I've bought both and seem to not really be able to tell much difference. But they are always the cheapest whether I'm buying one or one hundred.

I looked at www.hermanscentral.com, Enco, www.mscdirect.com, McMaster-Carr and Im sure if you're a machinist their websites are great. If you're a novice like me you're lost! The only websites I see where I can buy a set of large drill bits is ebay....

From what I'm seeing thats pretty much the average price.... I'd feel better if I could find reviews on Cle-line drill bits before I dropped the cash on them.
