Source for Mac tool box slides?

A mechanic friend has a Mac MB1700 tool box (90's vintage?) with failing slides. The detents to keep the drawers closed no longer work. He replaced the slides previously (one of the lower drawer slides in photo) but they are failing again. His Mac dealer says slides are no longer available. Does anyone know a source of slides? Or if these boxes were made for MAC, who made them?

Thanks

I don't have a good source but DO double check with Mac. My boss ordered some through local Mac guy about 2 years ago. Things may have changed... Good Luck!

Maybe not from MAC but Accuride makes those slides.

Give me some measurements and I'll give you the part number. Yes I'm THAT good. Measure the length of the slides in the closed position and measure the width. Also measure the distance from one bayonet to the other. (They are "bayonet" type slides)

Hold on, I've got some slides I'd like to replace from my old Napa rebranded box...

Thanks for the offer. I'll make some measurements next week and get them to you.

I'll echo double check with Mac. There's a chance that they're available but not easily available and the dealer doesn't want to go to the trouble.

Working directly with Mac I was able to get slides for a much older box, took quite a few emails back & forth with measurements & pictures but they came through in the end.

As far as detents go, they're available from Snap-on. Back in the day, Snap-on and MAC both used Accuride slides. The MB1700 (might) take the narrow detents on the upper shallow drawers. It's been about 20 years since I've owned my MB1500. The MB1500 and MB1700 used the same slides. The tall drawers (except the bottom wide drawer) used the wide detents I know for sure. Standard issue for MAC back in the day was the firm gray detents.

I would contact MAC direct. I would bet the part# has been superseded and the dealer does not want to be bothered.
I can't see a company like Mac abandoning support for a box like that.

I have a MB1700A and got slides less then two months ago. Give Mac a call. It takes 3 different types of slides. Light duty for really thin drawers, medium duty for most drawers and 3 big drawers takes heavy duty stacked slides. I think the older MB1700 boxes may take different slides. The original accuride slides where 23” long and don’t think they are made any more. Replacement slides are from Taiwan.

just checked and they are 23 inches exactly. Bet they were custom made back in the day.

The MB1700 is my dream box. I would LOVE to have one.

I want the last generation with the spring loaded casters and the 4-bolt square side handle.

I currently have the same problem with my MB1700 drawer slides. I actually damaged one by pounding on the drawer when it was open. I removed the slides and found a serial number on the left drawer that says "30607" so I researched that number and nothing came up. I called MAC and they cross-referenced the number to drawer slide numbers "042752-00" left and "042753-00" right. They also said they would just send them to my house free of charge? I guess I will wait to see if anything shows up.

Lastly, I asked him what the manufacturer of the slides are and he said "Nan Juen International" out of Taiwan, go figure. Anyways, I will let youo know if anything shows up in the future!

I just called MAC directly and told them I had an MB1500 that had some bad slides. The CSR asked which drawers I needed sliders for and a week later they were on my front porch. Literally could not be easier.

New slides came in yesterday! Exact match. No charge and makes the box like new again. I’m going to call and get some more for a few of the other drawers.

I called again today and they are sending me all of the rest of the slides. I guess there is no longer an issue with MAC toolbox slides!

I also just contacted MAC regarding slides for an MB1700. Couldn't find the serial number but they told me to send the form anyway.

45 minutes later I had a reply back that they are sending new slides for ALL the drawers.

This is excellent to know. Thank you very much! I recently got my Uncle's MB1600 roll cab and MB1760 side box, and I'd like to replace all of the slides. The MB1600 has friction slides (aside from the bottom drawer), so an upgrade to BB slides would be great. I'll have to grab the serial numbers and shoot them an email.

Just received a email back from Mac in reference to new drawer slides the email states:

“Unfortunately, will only be for the replacement slides on the MB1700 as the MB1710 was discontinued in 1995 and there are no replacement items available for these units anymore.”

Before I respond back, Does anyone know the part numbers for replacement slides for a 1710?
thanks

Update just got off the phone with Mac, and I was able to get the original part numbers for MB1710 drawer slides and they are
#31379, #31380 #31381 #31382

Can anyone help with cross referencing these Mac part numbers to current Accuride slides part so I could purchase new slides?
Thanks

I’m not sure what you mean ?
See if Matco slides will fit, they are the closest to your quality of your box. Snap on slides may fit but...when I was in they weren't as HD you can make any slide work with the right attitude

Oh ok is there any way to cross reference MAC part numbers with snapon or Mac tool parts numbers? Or I just need to find a tool man and ask him directly?

Asking because I finally got a (very rushed) call back from a adcuride technical support employee and the told me this:

Mac slides where custom ordered for there boxes; they use a mounting tab or pocket to attach the slide to the drawer. In Addition to a mechanical fastener such as a screw or rivets.

All accuride “standard product line” slides they carry do not use mounting tabs or pockets. therefore there is no way to cross reference part numbers.

However if I can email them pictures of the original slides, he can help identify slides that could work. But not a guarantee as I will have to figure out how to modify and make work for my application.

Now to me this seems like a bs answer and just a way to get off the phone with me. I’m only saying this because Mac does have replacement slides for the bottom box MB1700 and they are sending me replacements.
well MB1700 also has mounting tabs, and the top box only uses two different slides. so you saying all the boxes they made after my box and none of them have similar size drawers?
Because the dimensions listed in this brochure don’t seem to atypical or odd sized to me.. Top 3 drawers are light duty slides and bottom 3 used medium duty. Again seems pretty standard to me.

Any and all Help, knowledge or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again!

They are custom slides. Mac ordered what they need for production plus some for replacements. For the next generation toolbox, they found they could save money or improve it with a different design or supplier so they made a change that was not backward compatible with the previous tool boxes. Then 25+ year later MAC runs out of spare slides.

I am more amazed Accuride will even talk to end users as you were not their customer, Mac was their customer. But Accuride has talked to even me regarding slides so I have to give them credit for good service.

They are NOT MOUNTING TABS. That guy on the phone is full of it. They are called BAYONETS. I use to own an MB1500. Same exact box as the MB1700 but shorter in overall height and not as many drawers. But the drawer slides are exactly the same. They have one rear bayonet and one front bayonet per slide. In addition to that, they each have one very small sheet metal screw on the front of each slide. 1/4" nut driver for removal of the little sheet metal screws. Bottom wide drawer takes different slides.

My point is this: Bayonet mounts are a very common way to mount slides to a toolbox. They are called "Bayonet Mount" slides. If that guy is correct in saying they don't make slides with "mounting tabs" anymore, then that means Accuride doesn't make slides for toolboxes anymore. In that case, Accuride might as well shut their doors because there's not enough business in just making slides for kitchen cabinets.

I think you need to measure your slides real good and then call Accuride back and get a different person on the phone.
