I've made my own in the past. If you have an accurate measuring tool, grinder, an angle grinder, and quality files, it isn't as difficult as you think. I used flat cold-rolled steel because it is tougher than hot rolled. You could also use stainless steel but I don't think it is as tough as cold-rolled.

Thanks for the inspiration. Rather than order a thin wrench and wait for delivery, I cut a rough square out of a large washer I had laying around, finished it to size with a file, and held it with a vise grip. Worked perfectly, and it was basically free.

I see the thread is old, but I've got the V8 sets in metric and standard. I don't use them often, but they've saved my **** when I've needed them. Have not noticed the other complaints in this thread with quality.

I've also done KC-Steve's approach of making my own, but with 1/4" plate for fan clutch wrenches. 1/4" may not seem thin, but it is when you start talking about 36mm+. Actually I milled mine, but with careful layout you could do it by hand, preferably with a vertical bandsaw.

Try looking for DIN894 wrenches. I found a set of Zelenda (german) metrics on ebay for about $25.00 for 8 wrenches, 7 to 22mm. I was able to find the 12, 14, and 15mm to fill out what I needed for about $15.00 more.

I have a set of craftsman ignition wrenches. They're stamped steel and they're thin. Made in USA too. Might be a good alternative for what you need, they just don't go to big sizes.

Ah hell, I remember Zelenda from my Audi days. They'd sell you any specialty tool you needed, but you had to know the part number of the tool you wanted. They couldn't or wouldn't reference by application or intended use.

Good idea!

They only go down to 13mm, though -- I need 10mm and 12mm most of all, and I'd like to have 8mm.
I'd call them.See if they can hook you up.
Just tell them your use, they can make a couple of dies and offer them as a moto-kit.

Dat chitz junk ! Go buy a piece of 1/8 x 1 1/2" D2 flat stock from the New Jersey Steel Baron. Take a grinder and grind what you want. Finish with flat files(interior dimension), send it out and heat treat to 50 RC.When it comes back sand and buff to however pretty you want. Blue it with Brownells Ospho Blue.......or take it to a bumper shop for plating.
Man wrench !
