I usually buy them by the box as I need them from MSC or Enco. They have assortments as well.

You really have to watch the quality regardless of where you buy fasteners these days.

Tractor Supply sells them by the pound, but I can't speak to the quality. Never bought any there. A lot of nuts and bolts that are marked as a grade 5 or 8 might not actually be of that grade if they are coming from a 3rd world nation. If you want quality, then stick with the companies that supply industry. Every major city should have one listed in the telephone book under "Industrial Suppliers". It will cost more, but you will be sure of the quality. If you don't care about quality, then buy them based on price.

I have bought assortments of sheet metal screws and machine screws from fastenal. They did not have already made up assortments of bolts when I stocked my shop at work but not a big deal to make your own assortment.I stock my home bins from a local fastener guy. Here is a link to another place local to me that has pre-made assortments. I have not bought from them myself though.

you may also have more luck if you search for fasteners

good quality. large selection. good prices.

Harbor Freight's hardware breaks to easily

I work at the Indianapolis Fastenal warehouse (the main hub for the midwest), and I can tell you that all Fastenal brand fasters are made in China or Taiwan. There are some manufacturers that they sell that are made in the U.S. or Canada though.

For general purpose use -(i.e., non-critical fasteners), the HF assortment is good.

I wouldn't use these on a suspension, but for everyday household and shop fastening tasks, you can't beat this price.

Just received a new batch and have been very satisfied. Last batch lasted five years, PLUS you get the bins.

They also have a similar nail assortment and I'm also satisfied with that purchase.
