I've looked on eBay for one but been unsuccessful. It is the part that would drop down to lock the adjuster nut in place - see picture.

Any ideas? Finally have a project where it would be helpful to have.

It seems fairly easy to find the ones that work like jam nuts. This looks like it would be keyed to the shaft and splined to the splined area on the other nut.

You could make something that would work fairly easily with a basic lathe and mill. It wouldn't have the internal splines, but those really aren't needed. The lather models just use two nuts and a washer. As you found you will most likely have to purchase the entire assembly to get the single part you need. IMHO you have the more critical part, the top piece just locks it in place. If you really want precision I would convert it with a cheap digital caliper.

I don't need high precision. Any idea what thread that is? Do the later jam nut type work on the older mechanism?

Off the top of my head, no, I think they might be trap profile. I'll take some pics of the collar you need tonight. The top part is not threaded it has a slot in it to prevent rotation about the screw.

I didn't get a chance to measure the thread, but it is different than the more modern 15" machines that use a twin nut and smaller than the old 17" that also use a twin nut.

At work I countersink a lot of holes on my Clausing press, so I made a new rod with quick release nut. Saves a lot of time and much easier on my fingers.

At home I rarely need extreme precision but I want SPEED. I added a smooth rod with locking stop collar, and it works great. FYI, that's a USA Wilton press with 6-inch stroke.
