I have a project to plan for next summer, raising the roof on my new shop about 4 feet. The shop is currently as pictured, pretty bare bones.
I am debating on just sliding the red panels up and doing a wainscoting on the bottom in a different color.

Does anyone have a good source in the Midwest for steel siding?

Menards has a good in stock selection as well as special order any length you need. Their price was better than anything else around me.

It looks like they have a lot of stores in Wisconsin.

Yea, and if you can hit an 11% off weekend I doubt they can be beat. Especially after you factor in shipping.

I must not have looked under the right brand, they do have custom order 12' lengths.
They are at $23.40 per 36" x 12' section, looks like I would be in it for roughly $1200 using the pro rib or $1500 for the premium stuff.
Does anybody install steel siding for a living? Does not appear too difficult as long as you get everything nice and straight to start.

FYI, if you want a better rebate during the 11% sale...

Walk in the store and go over to the contractor desk and have them write up your ticket. Look at the total and walk over to the checkout and purchase a Gift card for that amount but don't pay for the ticket, walk over and grab you're rebate for that purchase and walk out the store. But then walk back in the entrance, take your ticket and your gift card and purchase your materials. Then again walk over and grab your rebate. Double Rebate!!!!:rocker::rocker:

You can also buy stuff with your rebate during a current rebate time and get an additional 11%

I may try that for a small amount, I thought they would not allow the 11% if you used a gift card to pay.

There is one nearby that is 10 minutes from where I live right now and where I am moving, works out nicely.

I believe that sometimes, the giftcards are included in the 11% rebate and iother times they are not. Gotta read the fine print.

I've been doing the inside of my shop with panels from Menards, and I'm really happy with it. You're right...get the first panel straight and it's pretty easy. It might sound dumb, but I didn't initially realize that each panel has two different size end ridges....a wider one, and a narrower one. You want the wider one on the bottom, and overlap the narrower one. They will go together the other way, but won't be quite right. Don't ask how I figured that out ;)

Here's a progress pic (not completely finished by any stretch of the imagination):

Thanks for the pic, did you pick up the trim at menards too?
I saw they have starter strips but did not notice and trim.

Yes, I bought trim from Menards as well. They have a pretty good selection if you look on their website...just go to the post building section and look at trims.

They source their steel panels and trim from Midwest Manufacturing, and you can actually pick up orders at the factory to save time and delivery charges if that makes anything easier. They appear to have several locations in Wisconsin. I actually picked up my panels and screws at the plant to save time, and it worked out well. Some of the trim I ordered and picked up at the local Menards, and some was already in stock at the store.

Menard's will have the J-channel that you need. I decided to buy a box of coil stock and bend my own since I have a brake. I also needed to wrap around the scuttle hole door to the attic.

That looks good. Can you post any other info on how you finished the inside? I am having a Pole Building built and have no idea how to economically finish the inside. Yours looks like a very good option.

Did you Tyvek the outside before the metal was installed? Also any other info on how you framed the inside and how you insulated it would be a great help.

Sure thing....I'll try to keep it short to keep from messing up this thread. Yes, there was Tyvek on the outside before the exterior panels were put up.

For the inside, I pretty much just used 2x4s horizontally between the 4x6 posts so I'd have a place to secure the steel panels, and keep the insulation in place. Technically I think they're called girts, but lots of people call them purlins (which I think is technically for roof terminology, but it doesn't make a difference really). I used 24" R19 kraft faced fiberglass insulation, and put a 2x4 vertically half way between the 4x6 posts (screwed to the girts) to have a stapling surface. Then I put 1" foam board insulation between the girts since it's free space and didn't add much to the overall cost. A little bit of 2x6 framing around the windows to bring it out to the level of the girts between the 4x6 posts and it was time to hang steel. I used a J-chanel with frieze around the perimeter of the ceiling....it's like two J-chanels that are 90* to one another, so it covers both the ceiling panels, and the wall panels.

In reality, hanging the panels is the easy part....getting everything else done is what takes some time. As I recall, all of the steel, nails, and trim to do the ceiling and walls ran me around $1,300 for this 24x40 section (the barn is 40x64 overall). I didn't try to track what I spent on the lumber, and I haven't added up what the insulation costs were, but those two numbers are probably pretty low.

This shows the interior wall I posted above before I started on the inside:

This shows it as I was putting the foam board over the fiberglass, and you can see some of the framing around the window. After this is was really just trimming panels to length and hanging them.

Thanks for the info. I will have to track down someone local to me to source the metal from.

Try PMing Riefermen, he posted above. He was in the business a short time ago and I'm sure he could lead you in the right direction where to find your steel panels.

I believe Menards only gave the 11% rebate on gift cards once. I did do the double dip thing like you described.
