Source For Temperature Gauge

I'm looking for a basic, reasonably priced vertical mount temperature gage for my radiant heat system. Nothing fancy, I don't need a dual purpose gage (combination temp & pressure) as I already have a pressure gage.

I've checked with McMaster-Carr, Grainger, several radiant suppliers and my local home improvement stores and, believe it or not I haven't been able to find a simple temperature gauge that's less than about $40.00. Combo gages yes (for a price), but a plain 'ol temp gage, no luck.

I must be looking in the wrong place so any suggestions on a supplier?

Try Grainger's , they have several. You may need a thermowell for it. Made by Cooper, about $30.

Hey....any way or reason you might want to add a temperature gauge to an AIR system? Might be useful to know how hot your air is, no?

I'm not sure what you are interested in reading the temperature of but if it is circulated water temp buy a cheap indoor/outdoor thermometer (3 to 4 bucks) and clamp the sending unit (outdoor sensor bulb) to bare copper pipe in the system and wrap the pipe and sending unit with insulation and cover. Now you can use your imagination and get as fancy as you like with the installation OR duct tape and aluminum foil come to mind.

I don't have in-floor radiant heat but with my insulation system my floor is heated and I have mapped out floor temp gradients near the walls and doors using a Cooper non-contact handheld IR temperature indicator. The laser pointer type. I find one very handy for several uses in the shop - exhaust pipe temp, bearing temp, compressor air line, etc., etc..
