Anchor Band.jpg

Acquired these from an estate. The band material, though possibly decades old, is still very supple; and appears without degradation. The material is apparently not natural rubber, and appears quite strong. In addition to those applications where a typical “rubber band” would suffice, the removable bar assembly (anchor) allows for use in situations where access to an end over which the band can be fitted: such has a tall, vertical pole. With the bar, they can be used as a substitute for ratcheting Cable Cuffs/clamps and hook & loop straps, both of which I also use. Significant Google searching has not yielded a source for these elastomer bands with bar assembly. Bands without the bar assembly in materials other than natural rubber do not appear terribly difficult to source. However, I cannot find any source, or even mention, of these bar or anchor assemblies. I even attempted image searches. It is possible they are long, long out of production. I assumed when I started searching the internet I would quickly find a source. I was wrong. This is not a very important issue for me, but more of a curiosity. Have you ever seen these and/or are aware of a current or past source?

I found a current production version.

Gear Wrapz

These are manufactured by Alliance Rubber Co. The color, design, and available sizes do not perfectly match the lot I acquired. Specifically, that which Alliance terms the clasp is slightly different. My bands appear to be different circumferences of 5/8” width, with the closest, advertised, nominal width from Alliance being 9/16”. Some of the bands in my lot are also ~24” circumference, much larger than apparently available from Alliance. Limited retail availability. Bit pricey for the larger bands IMO.

I had some exactly like the photo in the first post. I have been racking my brain all day and can't figure out where or when I had them. I was in the Army, so I'm guessing I ran across them in 2004 when I went to Iraq, but it could have been as early as the First Gulf War.

The time frame seems consistent with the likely source of the bands I acquired. As stated, I started this thread to satisfy my curiosity. However, I am quite pleased with these bands I acquired and uses I have found for them, w/ or w/o the clasps. Not previously understanding “rubber band” material options, I now very much appreciate a material option existing that does not apparently degrade and adhere itself to the previously bound item(s) in 6 – months or a few years.
