I'm looking for metric "3,9 X 13" ovalhead sheet-metal screws. By my math, that'd work out to a #7 X 1/2" U.S.-size screw.

Any thoughts for finding such screws in either metric or U.S. size?

Thanks,
Mark.

I manage a GM and a Ford dealership parts department. The metric size is something I have never seen. The U.S / SAE sizing is still in-between the common sizing. If it is truly a sheet metal screw, a small bump up to a #8 will be a wise and simple find at your local hardware store

It's a Porsche 928 part. My usual Porsche parts house doesn't have 'em.

Have you tried a hardware store?
I have #7 x1 and #7 x1/2" here that came from Ace Hardware.

I needed some odd sized screws for the sides of the carbs on a Yamaha motorcycle one time and used these guys. They were metric and were stainless steel too. We have one here in my town so let me know if you should need any help.

No joy at Wurth, McMaster or Fastenal—no oval-heads in #7.

I haven't seen oval-head sheet-metal screws at the hardware store, but I'll look more closely.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Is this an aftermarket place like Pelican Parts? Have you tried a Porsche dealership? If they're still in the parts system I can't imagine they'd cost that much.

Aha. M4.2 oval head torx self-tapping screws. That might do the trick, thanks.

Go to your local Mercedes dealer and order part # N000000-000453. This is for a 3.9 x 13 oval head sheet metal screw with cross-type slot in a galvanic chromium plating. MSRP $1 each, but your dealer may charge more. Plenty in stock in the US.
