I have to build some vintage-looking crates for a customer, must be pretty close to original style. The crates I am looking at re-doing are 3/4" thick pine boards, with what looks like a soft metal strapping around it in a couple spots to reinforce it. Doesn't look like lead, a little harder than that, but close. I'm guessing tin. I can't find anywhere online that sells tin strapping like this, it's about 3/4" diameter, almost like the steel strapping that's used for shipping stuff strapped down to pallets, but steel would be too hard to work with and nail into the crate. A softer metal would be better.
