I've called them oil tarps but I don't know what the old olive drab canvas tarps were actually treated with. All I know is I have ONE and I could use a couple more small ones, like 5 x 7 to cover machines the live outside. Amazon is no help here. Neither is Harry Epstein.

Try searching "canvas tarp" on Amazon, that should get the results you're looking for.

Well, I guess I stole the 5 x 7 oiled tarp I bought from OSH for 20 bucks. They are double that now everywhere, ESPECIALLY Amazon. By comparison a 5 x 7 blue tarp (if you can call it that) is about 2 bucks at HF and the swap meet. So maybe I'll buy 10 of those and call it a day.

You'll be lucky if those blue tarps last 1 use.

You could try looking for oiled tarps at Marine supply stores. See if you can find one of the old crusty shops, the new modern ones may not know what you're talking about. A Marina may have some old ones laying around as well.

I bought a couple of tarps from the below. When I called I said I wanted water proof and mold resistant. They told me they have treated tarps just like I needed. I actually got 2 of them in a nice dark brown to cover my wood piles for my wood stove. There is definetly something on them. Kinda like a waxy substance. Anyways you can try them. I believe my 6x12 tarps were around $60 together....I might have made that price up. It was a few years back.

I believe the stuff that gives military canvas its odor is a wax called Canvak. Rural King carries treated canvas tarps at fairly reasonable prices.
