Hello,

Anyone have a suggestion on where I might be able to find white screws to use to mount gearwall to 2x4s? I need 2 1/2" screws.. I see that head cote makes a white one 2 5/8", but they don't make it in a normal head, only a trim head (smaller), so I don't want to use that to fasten gear wall.

Any ideas? I really don't want to have to paint a zillion screws.. Backup plan is just go with grey deckmates..

Gladiator makes some, but they really stink from what I've read.

thanks,

You can get those little plastic buttons that push in to the screw head, or pre paint the heads. Stick them all in a piece of cardboard and hit them with a spray can, only take u a few minutes. If you want the plastic buttons I know the ace by me carries them, good luck!

Not a bad idea with the buttons, I'll look into that. It's more then I want to paint. Doing the entire garage in this stuff so its likely between 1000 and 2000 screws. :-/

You just gave me another idea. Have a friend who has a sign shop / vinyl cutting machine. I can just have him cut me small circles on the machine and stick those over the screws!

That'll work too, when I was 18 I bought a cheap particle board tv stand that that had a cheap *** woodgrain laminate on it, they gave me a little book of woodgrain dots to cover up the screws. I bought some white screws from menards but they were round head screws, I'm assuming you want a bugle head.

The easiest approach and cheapest: Get whatever screws are perfect for your situation, buy a pint of white Rustoleum paint, get a piece of scrap styrofoam, stick a bunch of screws in it and paint the heads. I've done this many times and it works out great.

THIS ^^^^^^ except I would use cardboard instead of styrofoam, some styromfoams dont react well to pain propellants and may melt around your screws.

If I was going to paint them I had planed to just screw them into scrap 2x4 or something, but the cardboard or styrofoam is a much better idea..

Do you have kids? Popping a couple thousand screws through cardboard sounds like a good kid project. If I had to do it myself, I'd pay WHATEVER for pre-painted ones. You're talking hours / days to do that many.

If you spray, don't use styofoam. I usually go cheap and use a foam"brush" and paint on the rustoleum. Depending on application (e.g., gutter and downspout) I use stainless steel hardware and pain the heads.
