Picked this up today.. Just thought I would share how I moved it in case somebody picks up a lathe like this one day. Only advice I can give is to break it down into about 7 pieces like this and you'll save your self any problems :) It's very manageable after you take it apart. Took me about an hour. I moved all the pieces with a dollie very very easily! Now time to get it ready for a little make over.

Best of luck with your new lathe. Been through way too much machinery moving and know what a stressful experience it can be...looks like you handled it well. Makes sense to break it down if you are planning a refurb anyway.

:rocker: Take your time and refurb each piece at a time, focus on one part at a time. Locate a manual with a breakdown and find as many original pictures as you can. Take pictures of sub assemblies before dismantling. Best of Luck with the machine.

Thanks fellas, and yes I'm planning on taking my time with it. It's a good lathe... Just needs to be freshened up with some new paint and the usual. It came with the taper attachment and a 4 jaw chuck. All the gears are in good shape. I got it for $500. I think I got a nice deal on rigid little 13 :) should take care of any little jobs that come up. Hope to post up some pics of the progress soon...

It was YOUR guide I went by brother! Thanks... I was a little worried once I started that I was gonna be in over my head during the disassembly. But it went well... Just thought I would help out somebody else by showing with a pic. It was a lot easier and SAFER this way :)

Wow! Thank you. It's so cool to know it helped someone. Any part of the guide that was hard to understand? Any additional hints and tricks?

No man thank YOU! I was looking for info on transporting a south bend and kept reading crazy ways of doing it. I got the 13" x 20" small lathe and it's still heavy as hell! I was looking into maybe getting somebody to move it for me and the cheapest I found was more than the cost of the lathe smh.... So I found your write up and said why not? Woke up this morning and went to guys shop and went at it. In about an hour it was into 7 manageable pieces. Now it's in my garage safe and sound, and plus nobody got killed :rocker: btw... You think I got a good or fair price on it?
