I picked up a new wood stove and the stove pipe hookup in my shop is lower than the top of the stove..........is it a bad thing to plumb smoke pipe downhill? I am assuming yes. What do I do, knock a hole out and shorten the chimney pipe?

See the black hole on the right side..........this is the chimney hook up.

Dig a hole? Seriously, smoke won't flow down hill normally, and if it does you've generally got other problems with draft, etc. I'm not aware of any type of power venting system for wood burners. That pretty much leaves tying in higher.

You can't pipe the flue downhill. Cut a hole higher up and add a cleanout door to the existing hole. You may have to open the existing hole up a little, but with a cleanout door you will be able to remove any buildup. That is unless you already have a cleanout. If so, just mortor up the lower hole.
