Pretty cool. The weight capacity on their units isn't all that high (450lbs) but the retrofit goes up to a bit further (950lbs). Maybe they'll make a heavier duty version at some point?

I was wondering the same... I have "limited edition" black gorilla racks in my office and I think each individual shelf is rated at 1000 pounds. Great looking shelves...

It's cool they thought of the retro-fit application. I design commercial restaurant kitchens for a living. We have installed wire shelf units by Intermetro on sliding tracks before in kitchen storage rooms. I think the sliding shelves work great if you are just storing large boxes on them, but small items like glass cleaner bottles tend to fall over when you move the shelves.

I have to agree with the need for a higher weight capacity. but the concept is great. When I was in the Air Force, we had a much larger system in the mobility bay. The ability to store all of our gear with this type of moving shelves was great. Before we got the system we were out of space. And afterward we had a lot of extra space that we soon found things to put there. I just may have to look into this for our basement storage.

I like the ones that slide OUT rather than left to right... although I did not see on the video, I assume that they slide out on track, so that would be something to slip on?

Love it! I nearly bought one of those commercial office/medical file storage shelvng systems years ago but it was just too big to handle.
Something like this could be really helpful for redesigning my storage area...however I wonder how easily the tracks fill up with dust/dirt which would lock up the wheels.

Pretty tempting...

Gentlemen,

Thank you for all the interest in Space-Trac. I am the president and founder of the business. We supply systems (manual up to 1500lbs) the pull out has a rail on the floor under the mobile shelf so no trip point. We manufacturer all sizes - do custom stuff every day. Place cabinets on our bases, your mind is the only limiting factor. If anyone wants to learn more feel free to call me. Dave Klumb 262-707-7288 email [email protected]

Sir,

All of our carriages are galvanized and stainless steel hardware. We have a commercial side of this business called www.space-tracsolutions.com and install units in freezers - coolers every day. No rust!

After watching the video again, I think the cabinet/shelf with the pegboard on it is awesome. I'm gonna have to get me that setup!

I looked under 'accessories' on the website but didn't see this - Is it possible to order additional shelving levels? Say I want a 6 or 7 shelf rack?
Do you offer taller shelves? 5' is a little short but its also stable.

The rails definitely would be a trip hazard if you place them anywhere you need access. I think I'd rather see hanging versions from an overhead track that would leave the floor clear.

I was at a commercial health facility recently where they used a system like that for files, there was a geared track on the floor and cranks on all the racks to move them. Looked pretty useful.
If you already have a significant amount of shelving (like me) I don't think it would be an incredible challenge to attach fixed casters to it and a simple guidetrack to the floor from scrapwood. I'd estimate less than $15 per unit retrofit cost.

Count me in if a group buy happens. They look like the same Edsal shelves that I already have, not sure how much 'retrofit' will be necessary for mine.

Space-Trac claim to fame, we manufaucture the bases to fit any shelving, cabinets, pallet rack. 75% of our sales is just the carriages and rail, customers re-use their shelving.
We also have guidance rail that can be driven over by a forklift and recessed flush in the floor.

On the pull out series the rail is under the shelving so no trip point. Our standard guidance rail meet the American Disabilty Act so a wheel chair can go over it. Some customer will install a rubber mat between the rails.
