Good morning!

I am going to be buying lumber today to finish off my pole barn. I need to know what is the recommended spacing for the 2x4s I will be attaching to the bottom of the trusses to hang the metal panels? 2 feet? 3 feet? Also, the trusses are space 8' apart. Would you get 8 or 16 foot 2x4s? Might be quicker installation with 16 footers but a 16 footer is $2 more than 2 - 8 footers. Thanks in advance!

Mind if I chime in as well on something? The 2x4s will go the long way in most garages. But also does the steel. Normally the strapping is across the long product being installed. How is it done with metal panels?

I would go 8', stand them on end in between your trusses. That will be stiffer and stop any long term creep and sag.

Oh, so are you saying instead of screwing them to the bottom of the trusses, you are suggesting putting them between the trusses and screw through the face of the truss into the the end of the 2x4?

8' is a long span for a flat 2x4. It will be much better to have them vertical.

You should either put them in hangers or pressure block between them to keep them from rolling.

Thanks, that's a good tip! I didn't think about that!
