Spam private messages

So we had a spammer sign up 253 accounts with usernames that start with “administrator.” They then sent a bunch private messages to users saying they won something like an iPad. We caught it quickly and got all of these users banned. However, not before they sent 88 private messages. If you got one, just ignore it… obviously.

I’ve gotten messages from spammers more than once. Usually it’s about my classified ads or my wanted ads but I’ve always reported them as spam. They always bail once they respond to a wanted ad but don’t have pictures of the item they “have” lol.

Took less time than I thought it would. Were all the 88 PM's sent to "new" users with hardly any posts? Part of the scam?

Is this legit? Received this message to claim a free iPad. Seems awfully suspicious.
