Assuming most of the spammers are originating from china there are a few things that can be done.

Cloud flare is useful

Extended user fields...modify the .htaccess files

depending on the mysql database version being use there are a few tweaks that can be done there as well.

I've used all 3 methods on the sites I've built with e107(open source php) and have cut down chineese spammers by about 98 percent. Before I was simply banning ip addresses daily with spammers just coming back via proxy servers

Ask your web server to adjust the settings to eliminate all users from China. It's easy, and eliminates a great deal of the spam problem. Other countries can be done also, except that too many instructions will slow down your server, hence your site.

Again, spammers use a proxy. so this 'Chinese' spammer might be your neighbour... And next time he log in, he might be Russian, Indian, or Mexican...

Gotta blame somebody... for what, I don't know.

They're only supplying the products/quality we ask for, and even lend us the money to buy it. We should be thanking them.

Here we are once again, I missed this thread and started another one, sorry. Its amazing sometimes how a thread can get buried in a short amount of time here. I mean that's good as it means this place has alot of traffic.

Even worse your own IP address could be hijacked and you could be accused of spamming. Well I have heard of it happening.
