Spark guard for angle grinder

I have the harbor freight grinder guard. See below. Think if I wrap it with some tin foil I can use it as a spark guard? I need to cut 2" cast iron inside the apartment.

I have 3 welding blankets from HF. they work well for me. this is what I would use.

I don't shop at HF, but if they have a cast iron cutter/snapper, I'd get that and use it over the grinder. Otherwise they're a few hundred dollars for a good one, so the grinder will have to do...

Really depends on where you think the sparks will be going. Protect that area. If you are afraid of fire inside a wall and such, I would rethink the whole thing. Maybe a powered hacksaw, etc.

Most of the sparks are going to come out from the bottom of the guard, so what you are thinking about won't help much. Maybe holding the grinder and work inside a non-flammable container could help. I've burned holes in my jeans using the cut-off wheels, so it will definitely be throwing some heat.

You'd be surprised how much a grinder can stink up an enclosed area and send particulates (metal dust) into the air.

I removed a lot of cast drain pipe and galvanized pipe from my house using a "demolition" type blade in a reciprocating saw. It actually cuts pretty easy.

Yeah i tried cutting off screws with angle grinder and hot sparks burned my forearms. I quickly decided there must be a safer way.

Appropriately placed weld blankets might do the trick. I'm gonna need them when I sweat copper pipe.

If its for cast iron pipe you can rent the chain/blade cutters that use a ratchet and snap the pipe

I don't think I have enough room. About an inch away I have copper supply pipe. Reconsidering - I'm not sure using an angle grinder would have been a good idea.

Yeah, but you better be steady or else you'll go through the sheetrock... Then again, I might just patch up the slice from the sawzall and charge ahead...

I wouldn't use a grinder there.
