Spark Igniter

I d like to make a spark igniter to bet rid of the pilot, for my Janitrol unit heater. I know kits are available at Grainger for around the $250.00 mark.
Doesn't seem that hard to make one.
Anyone done it ?

by the time you buy all the parts to make one, build it, test if its going to work, make it work in your unit, and then worry about if its actually going to work right: or not light the gas and fill your place up only to ignite later if it does go off or the gas hits something else.

just buy a damn already made one lol

I don't know if this will help but I've been using ignitors from Ram and Gemline to convert commercial clothes dryers from a pilot. They're available in 24V, 110V and 220V and they're less than 50 bucks. Do a little googling, they're pretty easy to find.

So he would have anticipate when the heater is going to cycle so he can ignite it?

When you eliminate the pilot flame, you have to modify the gas valve so the valve opens when the ignitor activates. An ignitor from a barbeque grill won't do it.

I guess I was assuming manual starting, not thermostat control.
