I got a lot of use from 18MM re-threaders working on older aircraft engines with bronze spark plug thread inserts. Those seemed to leak carbon into the threads and glued the spark plug to the insert.

Later engines used Stainless Steel Helicoil inserts and almost never had problems.

Ford should have used Helicoils from the start.

I have installed plenty of Helicoil insets in aluminum heads. I dId them as standard procedure when I rebuilt Corvair engines. Somewhere I have a Helicoil spark plug master set. For just cleaning and straightening the threads I used to use this. IMG_9291.jpeg

I wonder if that work for the Ford 5.4 liter spark plug launchers.
A few months ago, somehow my sisters Honda minivan chucked one out. There wasn't any damage to the threads, so I assume it wasn't tightened properly for quite some time.
