A coworker of mine mentioned a retired coworker of ours passed a Spartan made hacksaw on to him when he retired.
It was clearly one of the “oldtimers” most prized tools.
I have never heard of the brand, but from what I gather they were held in high regard among both electricians and Plumbers.
A quick google search turned up a few posts, but not a lot.

Any one know anything about the company or the saws?

Just from google.
Spartan Hacksaw were presumably made by the
Spartan Saw Works of,
41 Taylor Street,
Springfield Massachusetts.
Google shows a building that may be the same one, although I’m always uncertain about addresses on Google, and old address numbering systems sometimes change.
A later address was,
152 Fisk Ave,
Springfield 7 Mass.

From an ad or two, and trademark information, Spartan manufactured Hacksaw Blades, band saw blades, wood saw blades, circular saws, band saws, and hacksaw frames.
I’m not sure whether the above description for circular saw and bandsaws was just for blades, or whether it was also for machinery.
Scratch that, they definately manufactured machinery.
They also manufactured hole saws.
It looks like the company was formed in 1918 by a H.F. Strout, and a J.W. McQuillan, both formerly of the Massachusetts Saw Works. McQuillan was the had been General Superintendent and President of MSW.
It looks like the company was around until at least 1980, or at least it was still being listed in Industrial directories until then.

I also found one or two mentions that Spartan was owned by Armstrong-Blum Manufacturing, which owned the Marvel powered hacksaw brand.
Marvel still produces an Ironworker machine called the Spartan.
