I've used the spax and GRK T-washer head to build some shelving in the past that attaches to studs through sheetrock. Now, looking at some pre-made shelves and (this time bought one with pre-made brackets). Shelves are 2' x 6' and the brackets stick out from the wall 2'.

Is there any benefit to using the hex heads? (I used the t-washer heads before because I was placing bars across the heads and wanted something low profile. This time the head of the fasteners will be showing and I can go either way.

The GRK-RSS are outstanding heavy screws, I have used a lot of them. ABC Spax has a similar product in hex head which I feel is just as good. I think its just whether you like the torx drive or the hex head. I prefer the torx drive personally, also have many length of T30s for my impact driver.

Another possible choice is FastenMaster HeadLok screws. They have some very impressive ratings and look pretty neat too.
