Speakers in garage on wall

I am adding a 5.1 speaker system to my garage. I am wondering peoples thoughts on putting speakers them on the house wall of the garage. Would This be against code? I would have a vapour barrier sealed on the warm side of the wall (interior of house).

Thanks for you help!

On the wall, or in the wall? If they are surface mount there should be no issues. The wall between the house and garage needs to be a fire barrier (the exact requirements may vary depending on what state or country you live in) so I would be less enthusiastic about cutting a hole in the wall to flush mount the speaker.

I think they make baffles for this that are fire rated. Otherwise I always have just seen them boxed in with sheet rock in the wall and sealed with fire caulk.

They would be recessed into the wall. Building mdf boxes might be a good idea, I would loose some space for insulation, but would gain a fire stop. Decisions, decisions...

Yes, drywall would be better. Also, I was thinking of switching out insulation with roxul to help increase fire rating.

What is on the other side of the wall (in the house)? The sound will carry into that room a bit, so let's hope there are no sleeping babies or TV watching family members.
I hung my speakers from the ceiling with chains. This transmits very little sound into the family room adjacent to the garage.

I did that on a house I used to own - in wall speakers on a common wall with house.

Problem was the garage wall was common with the dining room. So you could hear the bass notes in the house when I was in the garage.

Wife wasn't very happy. :p

On a wall? nope. In a wall? Who knows. Probably not. Lots of stuff cuts holes in a fire wall. Switches, outlets, lights, etc. Not sure if in wall speakers are made of V0 plastic (chars, doesn't burn) though.
