Speaking of tool boxes

I've had this set up since the late 70's. The middle box was used when I added it about 10 years ago. Structurally it's built like a tank but needs to be stripped and repainted again. I can't remember where I got or how much I paid for the top box. The middle one I picked up at a swap meet for $20.oo and I traded an old wooden cabinet on wheels for the rollaway.



I'm thinking about selling the three boxes. It's getting to be a pain to climb up on a milk crate to see into the top box. Was thinking about buying a single unit, something like this if the sale of mine would cover the cost. Think I'm making a mistake?

No. I believe your needs have changed and the HF fits the bill.

I think you got your money out of the craftsman.

Probably not, but your stack is probably about equal to a 40" roller storage wise. If you need more room, go for a 56" roller.

Seeing that sticker on the top makes me think you don't get too many tool borrowers.

Or look for another used setup at a swap meet or on Craigslist. There are about 3 Snap On rollers that size on CL in my area for around $600 each. I'd go that route if I were you. Hell, I paid $500 for a 3 piece 33 1/2" wide Mac setup with locking pry bar box. They are far better than any HF box. I'd spend the money on a nice used bottom unit then put the Craftsman topper you have on top.

I don't think the sale of your existing craftsman stack will Cover the cost of a harbor freight cart.
Do you have enough space for the HF cart?

Update.

Well, I nixed the idea of selling my three piece in favor of a single large roll away. Thank God for craigslist. I mean where else can you find a 7 drawer top box in excellent condition for sale down the street from your house for less than 1/3 of what it cost new a year ago? Only on craigslist baby! Now I didn't really need a new box , I was just tired of climbing up on a milk crate to find stuff in the top lid of one of my stacks. Anyway, here 'tiz after I got rid of all the damn NASCAR stickers on the drawers. Because of its size it's got more drawer space than my old top two pieces so buying it was a no brainer when you consider that the price was under a hundred dollars. Couple that with the fact that two days later I sold my top two pieces for $125.oo!!!

I did a little consolidation and weeding out of tools I don't often use and plopped the new box right on top of the old roll away. I'll be keeping my eye on CL and maybe my next score will be a side cabinet for the roll-away.
