I recently bought a SO Classic 78 with tribal graphics , to resell. I checked with my SO dealer before getting the box , and he assured me that it has screen printed graphics and they can easily be removed.

I think it depends on the design.

My home box is a Doug Herbert special edition. I don't think the guy is even racing anymore. I wanted to trade it back in and my dealer says it will be hard to resell.
My work box is a bel-air special edition and I doubt highly I'd ever have a hard time if I wanted to sell it. Everyone that sees it wants to talk about it for a half hour.

I think it depends on several factors
the mustang and harley ones are classic. there are lots of people that love the mustangs and harleys so finding another person that will like it wont be a problem.

if the box is tastefull and not overdone then it will hold its value. if its gawdy then good luck

do you like it?
do you plan to keep it?
if you are buying for the long haul then get one of you like it
if its a box you will have for a short time and then trade in then go with the regular box

all special edition boxes can have the graphics and panels removed to make them normal. I will take anything in trade like that.

i personally don't care for the nascar ones, but i wouldn't mind a classic muscle car or something like that.

A special edition tool box has limited appeal. Nice plain toolboxes appeal to about everybody. Want resale value buy a plain red toolbox. I've been buying and selling toolboxes for a long time and plain red is still the fastest selling color followed close by black. Any special edition toolboxes get the grapics reomoved before sale. The only ones I'd leave alone are the Snap-On Bel-Air boxes. That only because if I ever get a set I'm keeping them for myself. lol

this is a black MATCO box and i like black boxes, would prefer yellow, orange or green, but black works and its more about what it will hold than what it looks like for me, as long as its not offensive. when you guys peel off these graphics does it generally damage the paint under them?

If it's sunny outside and hot I'll leave the face of the box in direct sunlight for a few hours and nomally I can grab a corner and the decal will peel off. The slower you go the better as it will lift most of the glue with it. Get the reat of the glue off the box with some 3M adhesive remover. I don't find Goo-B-Gone or Goo-gone very effective on that glue. On snap-On boxes I find that plain old gasoline just wipes the glue right off and won't damage the paint. Not really reccomended for safty reasons

Cosmetic alterations won't affect mechanical issues. That would be like Snap-On voiding your toolbox warranty because you had your box pinstriped
