I have a couple "special" Snap On tools. Thought it might be interesting to have a topic devoted to special, odd ball, or limited run SO tools. Not so much limited as in handle color or anniversary regular tools but actual limited or special use tool types.

Here is a start ........................................ this is HRT10VWA VW roof grab handle tool. I came across it and just though it would be a handy shape to pry, poke, press, or whatever, something even if not a VW grab handle.

They've got a ton of random specialty stuff for specific oems.

I think the only thing I really have is the GM door spring compressor.

I have the bushing driver and handle for the 27/28 spline RWD transmission slip yoke bushings. They made others; it's the last produced size. Been thinking of finding a way to put a drilled hard handle on it. :D

Not sure if these qualify. Don't know the truth in this but someone told me (here I think?) these ratchets are kind of rare, or at least not that common. Speed handle ratchets, 36T (the handle end rotate). I bought from the truck in the early 00s, I pretty much never used them but I still have them.

Heard they were discontinued for a while but they were brought back, the latter I'm not sure of. I didn't find em that useful back then using air ratches, can’t imagine people would find the useful these days with cordless tools. I haven't even seen a speeder used in a long time.

6-12v metal etcher. I bought one used from ebay 20+ yrs ago & it looked pretty old/dirty back then. Not sure of the vintage. Works but not that well IMO, I only tried it on 6V though IIRC h was the only time I tested. The tip is copper & it erodes so I assume the etching it produces will get thicker.

Mine hasn't seen the light of day in well over a decade but I know exactly where it is still, I have the cardboard box for it also. This pic stolen from the interweb.

Yup, those are available again. Not sure how useful but kind 'a cool. I have seen some much older speed handle ratchets on Ebay that are non-flex and have a larger "U" portion more like a regular speeder.

I’m thinking the black band metric sockets may well qualify.

YMMV
Are these the sockets you’re talking about?
IMG_3656_Original.jpeg
I bought the original set in the 70’s.
13 and 15mm were replaced under warranty when the drive end got sloppy.
The 8 and 21mm were added later.
Sockets used daily for over 40 years.

I think the black band metric sockets are from around 1970

They are not date coded but feature the flank drive patent #

More info is needed from those who can show other drive sizes and options.

Shown are my 3/8 drive 12 and 19mm

YMMV

The black bands were regular production to distinguish between Inch and metric sockets. Most cars on the roads at that time in the US were US made and so used inch based fasteners and metrics were the exception so a quick reference was handy for the mechanic who needed both. The black bands were complicated to make because the chrome was ground off the bands and the exposed area retreated with black oxide. I like them and buy them when I can. SO still uses a double band to identify metrics but now it's knurled.

Snap-on 7/8" 6 point x 1-1/8" 12 point Flare nut wrench. RXFS2836BSP

Well that's different. For a particular application? Or maybe midset that has smaller sizes in 6 pt. and larger sizes in 12pt. ?

It's probably for a particular application, (aviation?) but I'm unsure of what specifically.

Ok, I've got one more ................................................. 915CF pliers. Like the 911ACF but longer. Apparently these were a limited run, or special product , or SO just decided not to go forward with production??? Few and far between on secondary market. I had spotted them on Ebay in a picture of a whole set of about 20 pliers for sale. Put in a standing search for them. Came up once about 2 - 3 years later. Seller had a few. Got a pair. Then gone and have not shown up again.

I have a few that might fit the thread. This is an SA215. It's used to remove the ridge left by an exhaust clamp on an exhaust pipe. The knurled roller adjusts closer or further from the smooth roller to suit the thickness of the pipe and the ridge and powered by a 1/2 ratchet or BB. It works quite effectively.

I have all 3 sizes of the shock absorber oval sockets for the top of the piston shaft. I only needed one size, but I was afraid of not having the correct one, so I ordered all 3. A137, A138 and A139.

Which might remind some of the B2193 spare tire carrier socket Snap-on makes for Toyota/Lexus:

Knurlednut,

The wrench for Trek, as in Trek bicycles?

Yes, modern tools more so than antiques / vintage.

This just carries an L73 part number - the number for a 1" drive ratchet head but it's been converted to a 1 3/8 ratcheting square wrench. I believe the conversion is factory. The hole in the body and bottom plate are larger than a standard 1" drive pawl so it can not be converted back.

Started buying Snap-on black band metric sockets off the truck between 1972-1974. I had an interest in European and Japanese motorcycles at the time, so collected 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive sets over the course of several years. Still use them routinely to this day. Compared to modern chrome sockets, I like the distinctive black band that makes it easy to distinguish between SAE and metric sizes. Wish Snap-on still manufactured a similar design.
