Special Oil Filter Wrenches?

Hey guys, I just recently acquired a job at toyota as a entry level tech. I was wondering what kind of oil filter wrenches you guys use to get your oil filters off, since doing oil changes is one of the main jobs as a entry level tech. Thanks!

You need to start with the AST 3 piece set. Part # TOY 300. This is the popular cup wrench set that Toyota uses.

An adjustable three prong filter wrench is probably better all around for most tasks, use with an extention and universal joint for tight areas. You'll still need various sizes though. Strap wrenches and plier type wrenches serve well for the more accessible filters, just depends on the vehicle you are servicing. I only like cap wrenches for the really hard to remove filters. Servicing a vehicle that's just been driven and that hot oil filter will be hell to get out of the cap wrench.

The modern Toyota is a cartridge style filter, not a spin on canister. If he doesn't use the correct wrench he can damage the cap.

I just got a 2010 toyota carolla and im wondering the same thing

I called snap on corpret in TO and got the part#. But after calling my dealer and him not calling back for a week or so, I called the matco guy & they also have them but im not sure the part #

For the craolla its a cup style 65 or 64mm with 14 flats

They are 18$ and 7$ from snap on

use a new drain plug gasket/washer

I use Mobil 1 0w20 (prefered by Toyota) the engine was much more responsive after the first oil change I did at 2500 miles.

The AST cap wrench is 64 mm

Torque you wheels to 76 ft. lbs., higher torque warps toyota rotors and drums easy.

WORSE gas mileage I have gotten is 39.2 MPG

Overall, a nice car to run my kids where they need to go, etc. it looks great.

For those Toyota cartridge filters, ALWAYS run the car and put it back in the air and make sure the filter isn't leaking. The other guy I work with almost got sent to the customer's house to clean his driveway!

As a general rule, I torque Japanese lug nuts to 80 ftlbs and Domestic to 100 ftlbs. Look up the spec for the Lexuses with with "extra fancy" lug nuts (when you see them you'll know what I'm talking about), I THINK they're 100 ftlbs.

I used to be a lube tech at a Toyota dealer, I go gather up some part numbers, be right back.

Lisle 6300 - for filters (2-1/2" to 3-1/8") Camry
Lisle 63250 - for filters (3-1/8" to 3-7/8") old Land Cruisers
KD 3324 - for filters (2-1/2" to 3") Corolla

These are the tools I used in 1997-1999. Don't know if they work on 2009-2010 Toyota's.

It was the perfect tool for a 1999 Corolla, but I don't know if it'll work on a 2010.

It might. I remember the filter wrench fitting the 1999 filter real snug. I believe NAPA is the only auto parts store that has KD filter wrenches.

We use shops. but if you get that kit, pretty much don't need anything else. don't need pliers or strap type tools.

use what the factory says
if you use a different weight oil in some engines it will kill them

I work at Toyota/Lexus/Scion in my area, as stated previously just get the AST filter cup set. Also I would recommend the 3 claw wrench from snap on or craftsman. Also filter pliers come in handy for the sequioa's/tundra's. when doing tacoma's 2005 and up, dont forget to put a catch bottle under the ****** underneath the oil filter and dont forget to remove it after either.
Other thann that, have a couple of 14mm sockets(at least 2-3) they tend to grow feet where i work at.

I think the engine manufacturer knows the proper weight of oil for the engine they built.
