I need a mega torque wrench. It need to be able to torque to 550 nm. Newton meters.

It's to torque center lock wheels and needs to be 1/2 inch.

Another things on my wish list would be that it be able to break down to store in the small trunk of the car if possible. If not-not.

Price is important but so it value for the money.

I'll also need a 1/2 inch breaker bar.

I know zero about this stuff so links would be very much appreciated. I need it to be an accurate tool so the wheels are definitely on here good!

Thanks

There is no 1/2'' drive torque wrench on the market (that I know of) that torques to 550nm (405 ft lbs). Let alone the square drive most likely could not handle that kind of force and would most likely shear.

With that said, you would be looking at 3/4'' torque wrenches. I own a few, and my favorite, most affordable, and most accurate, is;

To kill 2 birds with one stone, it comes with a breaker bar handle as well, so you can use it as a breaker bar, then switch the handle and use it as a torque wrench. It is also made in the USA.

The "socket" for the center lock is 1/2" drive? Like mentioned above, likely your looking at 3/4" drive for that kind of torque.

you probably misread something, maybe it's 55nm

I don't think so. Center lock wheels seem to require a lot of torque. I see some are spec'd for up to 600 Nm! I don't know why that is, though. We don't use a torque wrench on sprint car rears. We stick our leg in front or behind the wheel depending on whether it's coming off or going on, then just pull the lug wrench against our leg. Rarely have wheels come off. Of course, we are normally only doing 25-40 laps on a 3/8 mile track.

Ok a clarification it is a 1/2"socket. Can I use a 3/4 " torque wrench? And a torque multiplier is what a lot of guys use but I though it was just a different name for a torque wrench. These wheels are spec d for 550 nm for street use and 600nm for track use.

I saw the tech use a breaker bar to remove center lock. It was about 6 feel long and someone had to sit in the car and press the brakes. To re install. Some back on brakes , and he basically torqued until it clicked the. He repeated leased the tension checked the setting and pushed again until it clicked.

It was a tech equipment tool. That and the BB and he case were close to $ 1,500 at the dealership. Not sure if it was a multiplier or a torque wrench.

Thanks for the help

Porsche? The street locks are garbage, but anywho most people use a torque multiplier. You could us an adapter from 1/2 to 3/4 to fit the larger drive size on the wrench, but the 1/2" drive can handle it no issues - the more pressing issue is finding a wrench with the right range.

I like that it looks a helluva lot more versatile than my 4 foot mactools 3/4 dr torque wrench

Does the car have the PCCB option? If so, you'll need the adapter since the PCCB rotors do not have any center hub to prevent damage to the threads. Also the 550nm is a joke, we put all the cars at 600nm. One of the other techs has a collapsible 3/4" wrench but I use a 48" split beam. I bought it from a local tool store for 450 with my discount and the socket was 150 on the interwebs.
