I have been thinking about trying to take on jobs at my home garage so I will be in need of specialty tools( pullers, serpentine belt tools drivers ect) stuff that's usually provided for me. Also I only have enough pliers, pry bars and some other stuff for work so need that stuff too. So basically I'm looking to build up my home tools with most bang for buck. Not into most of the HF stuff but I have been looking at tekton and power built for the specialty tools. Will I be able to effectively work at home with these brands or are they junk. Any other recommendations?

I used to do side work at home and used OTC, Astro Pneumatic, TEKTON and Neiko branded products. Ball joint presses, brake service tools, pickle forks, wheel bearing press adapters, serpentine tool, tie rod pullers etc. Never an issue with any of them working on compact cars to full size trucks.

I have heard a lot about tekton tools and not much seems to be negative. Any opinions if their tools will hold up to day to day professional work. I am in short supply of pliers for work and home. Also any good suggestion for hammers and trim tools?

Some time back I bought a small tool box from CL and it had the following tool set in it:

http://www.harborfreight.com/automo...e/pulley-remover-and-installer-set-40749.html

I thought great that will come in handy only the first time I used it the thing just fell apart as the threads all stripped out. Not the best quality but since it came with the tool box no big loss. Not sure if that helped you out but it was a specialty tool for the home garage.

I tried the HF power steering pulley puller and it was a giant pile of ****. Wouldn't even work. I returned it and bought the OEM version from Autozone for $40 and it worked flawlessly multiple times.
