Hello everyone need some assistance. Need a compressor and today I'm going to look at a used speed air 30 gallon with a Honda GX 200 engine. Looks very decent in picture. It is atleast a year old. Price is 650 OBO. What if anything should I look be aware of. Is the price decent ?? I would go electric but don't have extra money for the up grade to my detached garage.

Speedaire is Graingers private label I believe. Look up the list price, subtract 30% and then divide by 2. That is a good starting point for pricing used Grainger stuff. They are almost always high on their list for various reasons.

If you get a gas compressor, make sure you use it outside, or in a well ventilated area. The exhaust came sneak up on you. Before you buy, start it up and make sure you can live with the noise.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I have a SpeedAire 6.5hp Honda 8 gallon (twin 4 gallon tanks) wheelbarrow design compressor. Its built like a brick ********* and has been flawless, its heavy. The only issue I had when I bought it new was the Honda fuel tank leaked where the fuel line connected to it.

Well I made an offer. The owner who purchased used is holding out for more. Since then I did come across a Snapon 5 hp 60 gallon two stage in near excellent condition. The unit is a 1998 model year but hardly used. Who makes Snapon compressors.

If you use it at all the upgrade in electric should come first, often as simple as running a wire. Gas is very expensive to operate and very inconvenient.

I agree with sberry. I actually have both but one is going to be used in a portable trailer. Electric is the way to go in a garage. Have you priced the electrical connection? Like already mentioned you might be able to just run a wire and put in a shut off with one breaker.

I checked out several gas units. I made several offers but the sellers wouldn't really budge off their prices. I decide to go and have the garage wired up. I did see a extremely clean Snapon 5 HP 60 Gal two stage unit which seller states is a 1998 model but rarely used. But whichever unit I get at least I will have the power.

Instead of gas .........no cash or what ever the issue........set the electric compressor next to the fuse box ( install the correct outlet) and run an air line to the garage.
