Looking forward to the truss pics. The interior ceiling height is going to be 11ft?

Did you buy plans or draw them up yourself? Sounds like you are/were in construction biz?

I'm wondering the same thing. Did you import models for the truss or did you free-hand all of that in sketchup?

looks great! i built my hole garage around my fountain but sold it last season and now have a huge shop boatless lol

Sounds like you need to buy another Fountain! Or a Cig :)

Interior ceiling height is officially 11' 8" tall. I drew up my own plans on paper and on sketch up (a free download you can make plans with). I imported the trusses on sketch up. Searched for truss, and to my surprise they had what I needed 4/12 pitch trusses. It had all of the there 20', 22', 24', 26', 28'. I just highlighted the 22' wide ones and ran with it.

EDIT: Search in the "components". To get there click on window, then components in the drop down. Then you can download them search for "trusses" and they will pop up . It is called roof trusses 4:12 . There by Cvaldini

Used both to submit for approval. Needed the height to fit the garage door track and spring for a 10' tall door (16" min ) .

Ya I was in the construction biz when I was younger, mainly siding. But did a little of everything. I hung up the pouches once I graduated from college, but still break them out here and there.

Well we were at it again this weekend. Chilly and super windy. Perfect construction weather and stand 12' off of the earth ??????

I was hopping to get the roof sheathing done, but the wind was kicking our *** all weekend, so we said **** it, on Sunday do the sheathing another day. But trusses are set, tails cut and sub facia board is on . Total over hang on the sides is 23.5". Should a efficient use of the soffit since it comes in 12' long sheets.

It was a struggle to get the tails cut. The wind was wiggling the wall and us all day :( Ya I could spend 2 days throwing up more bracing but, Ill just wait for a calmer day.

Just for cutting the tails on the east wall with out it wiggling, I parked farm truck inside and used a strap to/from top plate to truck. worked great!! I'm sure I could have cut the tails on the ground hind site but this wasn't bad. Just had a sawdust-sandwich for mid afternoon snack. Not 100% sure how it would work tho.

The sheathing alone will be a wind sail trying to get to the roof on a windy day, later this week the weather is warming up and looks like the wind should die down. Enough talk on to photos that we all want.

Beginning Sunday late morning almost lunch.

Farm truck looks little in side! haha :p

Alright for some updates over the last couple weekends ago

Just a quick update. We finally had a couple nice days here in MN this week so I was able to move the roof sheathing around. Barrowed the skid steer quick to keep the heavy hauling to a min.

Also took out what was left of the root ball from a tree that was in the way of the shed.

Then after work we pounded out half the roof. Wasn't to bad for a after work project only took about 2 hours. Worked good with 2 people on the ground, pushing the sheathing up the ladder, Then I would grab it a nail the chit the out of it.

And dam it!! I will be 2 sheets short :( I will have to make a Menards run.

Here is a good trick I came up with. Put the H clips in a coffee can other wise there flying all over the place, push 2 16P nails between the sheets to keep it form sliding off. Plus it doubles as a beer holder!

Well we made a little progress over the weekend. I just couldn't get motivated.

But we were able to finish up the roof sheathing, get the house wrap on, and get the windows in and wrapped. The house wrap was a PITA to install. Windy and the tacker kept jamming up on us. The windows I used a new product to me, it is called flex wrap and is used for the bottom drip cap. Now I couldn't get it on as pretty as they do in the videos, but over all it was super easy to install.

Friday after work.

We ran short on H clips and 2 sheets of OSB. So there was a quick run to Menard on Saturday. Got the roof sheathing finished and the house wrap on. So I figured this is a good time to move the boat back home.

Sunday was window install. Pretty straight forward, but no step by step photos

Picked up some more work last night ( Wednesday ). Some call me cheap ***, I think of it more like wise spending, and having more boat gas:D. I quoted brick and mortar stores, lumber yards, ect. Evey one on roofing material. By doing this I saved a little over $9 pr bundle (42 of them) for the same Timberline lifetime architectural shingles by shopping around.

Home depot had the best prices on everything! They have a "Bulk order/buy" thing that really chopped the price on the shingles. In total with #30 felt (no this #15 here), ice and water, drip edge, ridge vent, shingles, ridge shingles, nails, ect. Everything to cover 1400 sq ft. ( roof is a little over 1300, but i rather have a little extra then run 1 bundle short) .... $1450 ! I didn't think it was that bad at all.

Plus the guys there were really nice and helpfully. I just asked the man in orange that was in the shingle area (Nick). " What the easiest was way to load up 14 sq of shingles and supporting material". He asked me if i had a list. I gave him my H.D. shopping list and he did all the rest!!!, Picked everything, fork lifted and wheeled it all to the cash register, then loaded it in farm truck and the trailer!! I was surprised. I owe him a beer :)

Now the draw back ...... getting them to the roof. But the skid steer can lift to 10' so Ill come up with something for the last foot and a half. I'm thinking stacking pallets on top of each other then lift some shingles up from there.

Sorry didn't take a photo of the ridge vent but here is what it looks like

hdr-Snow-Country.png

All the strap is doing is "making it look good". In all reality it wasn't doing anything.

Use up building material out of the garage............. and just put more back in it's place   . Some day the Esky will be able to park back inside. Pretty soon Ill have to put a blue pill on it since it is parked out side a like Platinum's  HAHA

Ok, lets see what what happened over this passed weekend.

Friday after work we were able to get the gable 2x6 sub facia on. Went pretty easy with 2 guys. Didn't take any in progress photos.

Sat plans: Get materials to the roof and have everything prepped for Shingle Sunday. Weather was awesome on Saturday beside a little windy.

Ice & water, #30 felt paper and drip cap are on

Then Sunday I rounded up the troops and pounded out the shingles. We had 3 coil nailers going, and two feed guys. We even took a 15-20 min break about noon. Rain was coming down to hard. So we went in the garage for a Mt. Dew and to dry off a bit. Start to finish and opening a beer in 3 hours! 10:30 - 1:30. Amanda kept the yard cleaned up of flying shingle bags.

Sunday weather....... Thunderstorms called for all day. it rained all Sunday morning till about 8 am or so, Then the radar showed opening so we were still on for shingling. The rain started back up about 3 or 4 ish.

Next step is to get the 33 and all materials out of the shed, pressure wash the floor clean, spray off the boat, then get the pallet racking up and get the new boat parts and extra material in the shed. This will give me my basement and garage back  . #chitiseverywhere.

In the end my estimate was spot on. We only had 1/2 a bundle of extra shingles and half bundle of ridge cap left over. If we wanted to be more frugal with the materials, I could have had more shingles, but no harm no foul.

Great stuff.

I wondered about the pulling-motors...it might be a nice thing to have a monorail I-beam inside the shop, could rest on the double-top plate, with some wood posts underneath, but nothing too serious in the framing dept. Would have to do some basic engineering on the beam to limit deflection, but that would be a great help and a whole lot safer than using the bottom chord of a truss to pull out a 502. Your latest boat has twin 350s?

Shifting gears, the BBC I put together for my old Custom Deluxe pickup truck, I used the "extra tall" gear oil pump. *Lots* of oil pressure. Seems to work well :)

I must admit I was a little disappointed that the baja you are into is boat and not truck or buggy. However I read the whole thread and was entertained and really impressed with your friends and neighbors helping you so much. That is priceless.

My last Baja was a single 502 mag. 1994 year engine, V belt, MEFI 1.

Thank you, Yes they have all been a huge help

Those intakes look like 454/502 MAGs.

So if I read correctly, you haven't had the new boat out yet? What props are you going to run on it?

Correct they are 502 Mags. last year of them before the 496's. Year, 2000, MEFI 3. Also correct I haven't had this one out on the water yet :shocking:. Bought it ran the engines, scanned them, winterized them, then drug it home!. My good friend Jeff also has a 33 OL.

As for the props I have 2 sets 26 bravo 1's and (4 bladers) witch Ill run. Then the stock 25 mirage plus (3 bladers). Ill test with them just so I know the "feeling" differance between them. Once I run it I might be looking for new porps depending on the RPMS. Jeff runs 28 bravo 1's on his 33 OL, with the the 496's

Just read this from start to finish and its really coming along very well. Good luck finishing it off!
Cheers Chris.

Thank you Chris!
