Speed Handle Collection Complete

As someone mentioned speed handles in my T-handle thread, I got nostalgic for my aircraft maintenance days and ordered up a 3/8 Wright and a 1/4 Koken.
They are both superb, very, very well made handles.

Not popular tools, apparently, as they both took quite awhile to arrive. The Wright took about 3 weeks from Epstein's; the Koken took over a month direct from Koken USA.


I'm a happy camper.

Do you keep the speed handles all together or split them in different drawers based on manufacturer?

I just got the shipping notice on my Koken 1/4" yesterday. The Plomb 3/8 did spark plugs on some kind of Mini yesterday. The Snap-on 3/8 with the scratchy handle is soaking in ATF but is probably not salvageable.

with a collection so large, it's hard to know how to organize them. /s
Kidding aside, I tend to keep all my specialized drive tools on the lower shelf of my service cart box. That where the big breakers, super long ratchets, T handles and speeders go. (exception: 1/4" T goes in the drawer that has normal ratchets, extensions, and adapters).

I grabbed a SnapOn 1/4” long handled ratchet out of the toolbox yesterday and realized for the first time it was a speed handle ratchet. Flex head, funkey bend in the shaft, and a handle on the end that spins.

I bought it at an auction several years ago with a bunch of other SnapOn, Matco, and other, unbranded ratchets, including a never used SnapOn 1/2 inch drive long flex head that I was really after for $75 maybe ten years ago. I never even looked at the speeder, and never really used it until yesterday.

It’s going to take a little time to adjust to using it though. Ergonomically, my body didn’t take to it naturally.

Lots of neat tools are like that-- we didn't even know they exist, then we try to use them and it feels weird, and then we can't live without them.
