So I found this air drier locally that a guy is selling. He said it is a medium sized unit Speedaire 3.in.1 refrigerated air dryer. 1/2 HP 36.8 CFM 120V
27" x 20" x 30". I talked to him and he said the unit was in a business he had many years ago and when the business closed he could not just leave it there so he brought it home. It has been sitting now in his house since 2002 he said. When I said does it even work he said that he had plugged it in and it ran fine. My question to you who know more than I when i comes to all things air compressor related is should I be worried about buying an air drier that has been sitting for that long? I told him I would give him $300 for it as he wanted almost $400 and he said he would be willing to do that. Is this thing worth $300 given it's unknown history of sitting for so many years? I recently setup an AC condenser on my compressor to cool the air which has had an immediate impact on the amount of water I see at the hose end but it is a cobbled together setup that I am not too particularly fond of and having a real air drier would be the bomb and if it is worth the money I am pretty tempted to go and get it. What does the mind trust here on the GJ site think??? Also are there things I should look for when I go look at it? I really have no clue about refrigerated air driers and that worries me as I usually know what I am talking about and looking at.

I had one that I let sit for five years before I was ready for it, and I guess the seals dried out because when I finally got around to messing with it, all the refrigerant had leaked out. So just check and see that it's charged.

How would I go about checking the refrigerant charge state of the drier? I have some A/C gauges that I have not used in years but they should be in good working order. The other thing is I can't seem to find any manuals at all online for any Speedaire refrigerated driers. I guess they are marketed by Grainger but made by different manufacturers and this one is obviously pretty old so who knows who made it.
