I currently have a LOUD oil-less 25gallon compressor that works well for my needs, but it's freakin LOUD. Mostly used for blowing stuff off, occasional use with the impact and sand blaster. It's 5.0cfm @90.

I've been looking for something quiet and it must be 110 as I rent and plan to for a while. I talked to the old guy for a while and he's not sure where its leaking(maybe just a fitting) and he has a spare 22 gallon tank for another $20.
He couldn't tell me the CFM or HP, hoping someone can identify this, tell me about it and tell me if it'd be worth getting? He said model number 32406, which gets me nothing.
I could sell my old one and break even.

Hi mtnwkr,

The old guy simply misread the model number; it’s actually 3Z406 and its 120 volt, 1hp.

Those are very good old portable air compressors. Speedaire sold thousands of them back in the ‘70s early‘80s. It was a very popular compressor back then, built to last and probably better than the new ones of today.

From the pictures it looks well kept.

Good Luck if you choose to buy

I have a craftsman similar to that pretty much the same air compressor just re-branded. Mine is 2hp/220V I use it for all my power tools and gets the job done smoothly. They come up often on craigslist here in california. Cant go wrong for the price, but you can find a 2hp for the same price if you look around more. I purchased mine for $75.

I bought a dual voltage for similar money off craigslist which also had a leak. Turns out it was the check valve not the tank. It's been going strong for several years.

Dayton and Speedaire are house brands for W.W. Grainger, an industrial supply company.

Might try their website, wwgrainger.com.

Grainger stuff is good stuff.

I have one a little newer but almost like it (3 horse)...and it is loud. Clean the air intakes and filter (on top outside of head) and change the oil...clean it up and it should work for the rest of your life. I went to replace mine with a new quiet compressor...and gave up. The old Speedair is way beefier than any new one...so I moved mine to an outside area off the garage...ran a fixed feed to my ceiling mounted hose reel...and decided to live with the noise. I found the old manual and tried to get a new filter for it...and ended up having to mill something on my own. Mine can work on either 110/220...so maybe yours can too...
