I picked up a model 3Z323 compressor on the cheap for $20. I've got more into than I planned($130 for new head, valve plate and ring job) and I still have an issue with it.

Right about the third cycle it's starts spitting oil out what I believe is a breather in the picture below. I'm not sure if this is a characteristic of this pump but it's aggravating. If it's normal, I'll just stuff some wadding in there and be done but It doesn't seem normal to me.

I have a different model, but yes that is a breather tube. There should be a filter in it. Not sure about the "spitting oil" thing though. Could your reservoir be over filled ?

I figured there was some type of media that gets stuffed in there. I'm thinking a cotton ball.

I filled the case up to the bottom of the threads on the filler hole. I have no paperwork with this thing so I'm winging it.

Search Grainger's website. Somewhere in there they have downloadable manuals and/or schematics. They may have one for your model.

In case you weren't aware, Speedaire is a brand owned by Grainger. The compressors are built by others. Campbell Housfield being one of the manufacturers. Alternately, you could search CH for a compatible model and use that manual.

I did that and it's not available anymore. That's really not an issue. I can use a cotton ball. I'm more concerned with the amount of blow by.

I have a quincy qt-7.5 that has a breather tube like that. It has a spongy scotchbrite pad type of insert in it. I say roll up a scotch right pad, toss it in thier, and see how she rolls.
