Speedway Tires

Noticed in a friends workshop the other day he had cut up his old race car tyres / tires and used them for floor matts by his work bench.

What a great idea as it would be better than standing on a concrete floor.

Will they flatten out enough ? I suppose he wouldn't use them otherwise.
Was wondering about tripping hazard?

I have a buddy that has done this as well, they surprisingly work really well.

Yes he cuts off the side wall and they flatten out nicely.

how exactly does this work?? i think it is a very cool idea. wouldn't you end up with like a 8" wide by 2.5' (+/-) long piece?? would you lie them next ot each other???

Simply cut off the side wall of the tire place the tread secion on the floor as a mat and in time it will flatten out as you stand on it.

I use rubber truck mudflaps. I used to be able to by 24X36" ones for $2.50 each.

I would think mudflaps would be a harder rubber than the soft rubber of a speedway tire.

I would imagine they work good, too. Anything is softer on the feet than concrete... I also have a few thin mats that are used under large paper rolls when being transported... they HELP keep the rolls from moving... although 6,000 lb. rolls have a mind of their own!
