Hi guys. I was hoping someone could help me find a the correct wrench for this spindle nut on a forklift. From what it looks like to me I need one with an inner diameter of 3 1/8" (80mm) and 4 lugs. My searches have yielded no good results, most i have found to be in the 2" range and a lot of them seem to list without a size just what cars they fit :dunno:

If one of you could help point me in the right direction or may even have one for sale that would be great. Thanks for looking

would a chisel and a hammer work?

I've been doing the hammer n punch deal but you always end up maring the edges a bit. I know its not a big deal but I would like to add the propper tool to my box for the job. I just can't find it lol.

You're looking for an adjustable hook spanner, unless you deal with a certain size very often.

assuming this is for a locknut on a wheel spindle?
probably a drive axle?

3" Id is getting up there, but the one thing that popped in my mind would be a spindle nut socket for a dana 70...

if you have a truck shop, or fleet supplier around, they may have something laying around covered in 4" of dust.

what about the lift truck OEM? most oem's have a listing of special tools needed/used

edit: you could probably make one out of a piece of heavy wall tubing, notch it out, find a **** socket to weld into the other end.

on that first page there is a set from kd tools. not sure if the one your looking for is in there or not and if you dont want to gamble you can look through the other pages and see if you can narrow it down. also maybe try taking it to a auto store and see if they can help you at all. and if all else fails do like crewchief said and make one if you know how to weld.

Just ran down and looked; my spindle nut sockets for a D70 depending on the year are a 2-5/8 x 6 pin or a 2-1/2 x 4 pin.

Your edit is what I was thinking or contact the forklift manufacture/dealer.

That was what popped into my head too, Dana 70 or 80, or perhaps a big Eaton?

I generally do just use a screwdriver and hammer on them.

Hammer chisel everyday. Lol. Does it have a goofy lock ring behind it you "fold" a tab back into the nut? Honestly that's why I ne'er search for a socket, because it always hangs on the lock ring.

Those goofy lock nuts I just smack with a chisel and hammer. They don't need to ever be on terribly tight, just snug. The lock ring that sets them in place will keep them from turning loose off of the bearing.

That's if I don't have the right socket for them, have a whole set of axle locknut sockets around here somewheres.

It is for a drive axle with the lock ring behind it so coming at them from the side isn't an option with the drum in the way. I like the idea of welding one up, if something doesn't pop up sooner or later I may have to give that a shot. Thanks for all the help
