Spindle sander question

At the makerspace, we have a jet oscillating spindle sander. The drums are pretty snug on the spindles. I bought some extra spindles from Amazon to adapt to the machine. Jet parts are expensive. The drum doesn't spin freely on the spindle but if I hold the spindle with a wrench, I can turn the drum by hand. Is that tight enough to work? Or should it be "pretty darn snug"? Trying to decide if I should send these back or if they will work.

See if this helps you out, as per instructions it reads do not over-tighten, again i do not know your model number.

I spent a bit of time last night with a triangle file fixing threads that people have messed up by using pliers. The 1.5" drum turned up missing. Went to replace it and it's $150, iirc. I can adapt another to work. A whole set of shorter drums is less than $50, but I just don't know how snug the drum should be to the spindle when it's all tightened down.

Fwiw, the jet has a key way in the drum so they don't turn even when loose. There's no need to over tighten them, though I'm sure people do.

A feather file work great for that, as does the 8 in 1 thread restoring file. I find both are less destructive than a triangle file. (At least in my hands)

Got one of the original spindles cut off, bored, and the new spindle pressed in. Won't be able to use them with the table tilted but I've never seen anybody use it tilted anyway. I'll post instructions for its use. Also tethered wrenches to the machine so maybe there's a chance people will stop using pliers on it. The sleeves do tighten up. I just wasn't tightening the nut enough.
