'splayed' 'wrench' ID?

Haven't come across one of these before, any info? No stampings on it.

The 'box' that slides over the jaws has a threaded hole on the other side, to lock the jaws in a set position.

Interesting wrench. As big and robust looking as it is the "T" handle doesn't look like it would provide much leverage. I wonder what it's intended use was.
